KM Boys Club Wins / 3 TN, ‘Tar Heel State Tourney PEACHES Cling and Semi- Cash hurled a four-hitter § Kings Mountain Boys Club’s 13-and-under basket- ball team won the Tar Heel State Games tournament championship last weekend at Charlotte’s Park Center. Bob Hussey, Davidson Col- lege basketball coach and former head coach at Kings Mountain High School, coor- dinated the event. Two other Kings Mountain teams finished second in their age divisions. The 15-and-under team lost the championship game 96-92 to West Charlotte at Myers Park High School, and the 18-and-under team fell to the Charlotte Super Sonics 83-77 in the championship game at Park Center. The winning 13-and-under team defeated the Charlotte Sonics 60-55 in the title game. Tony Currence led the scor- ing: with 25.poeints;. Marquiz Williams added 12 and Robert Floyd 10. In earlier action, Kings Mountain defeated Matthews 56-39 and Cabarrus Boys Club 49-36. Against Matthews, Cur- rence scored 12 points, Floyd 10 and Williams 8, and against Cabarrus, Currence and Williams scored 10 points each and Scottie Hopper had eight. Members of the team were yan Adams, Diron Bell, Mike Byers, Tony Currence, Robert Floyd, Andy Hollifield, Scottie Hopper, Quame Jackson, Jeff Rogers and Marquiz Williams. KM’s 15-and-under team defeated Milton Road 78-69 and Belmont 84-78 before los- ing the championship game to West Charlotte. Against Milton, Rodney Floyd scored 12 points and Kevin Arm- strong and Jamie Surratte had 10 each. Against Bel- mont, Darius Ross scored 12 and Ron Ruffin and Robbie Edgerton 10 each. Agaisnt West Charlotte, Darius Ross «scored 30, Floyd 15.and.Arms.. strong 12. : Members of the KM team were Tank Allison, Kevin Armstrong, Robbie Edger- ton, Rodney Floyd, Ryan Hollifield, Darius Ross, Jeff Ross, James Roberts, Ron Ruffin, Kevin Smith and Jamie Surratte. The 18-and-under team defeated Sun Valley 86-76 and West Charlotte 88-76 before losing the championship game to Charlotte. Tracy Armstrong scored 15 points, Denorris Wilson 14 and Jerry Jordan 10 in the win over Sun Valley. Armstrong had 16, Lenny Rayford 12 and Wilson and Jordan 10 each in the win over West Charlotte, and Armstrong scored 18, and Rayford, Wilson and Alton Mintz added 10 each in the loss to Charlotte. Team members included Mike Woods, Aubre Hollifield, Lenny Rayford, Jerry Jordan, Denorris Wilson, Tracy Armstrong, Ricky Sims, David Nash, Albert Watson, Brian Adams, and Alton Mintz.
