ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED — Mrs. Betty Putnam of
Kings Mountain announces the engagement of her daughter,
Sharon Kay, to Steven Anthony Blanton, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Blanton of Grover. Miss Putnam, also the daughter of
the late David Paul Putnam, is a graduate of Kings Mountain
Senior High School and Cleveland Technical College where
she graduated with an Associate degree in Applied Science in
Medical Technology. She is employed by Norick Brothers,
Inc. Mr. Blanton, a graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High
School, is employed at Lithium Corporation of America. The
Yeading will take place April 25th in Oak Grove Baptist
urch.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED—Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A.
Dunn, Jr., announce the engagement of her daughter,
Tamara L. Slawter of Charlotte, to H. Allen Baird of Hickory.
Tami is also the daughter of the late Bobby E. Slawter. Allen
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Baird of Kings Moun-
tain. Tami graduated from East Gaston High School and at-
tended Appalachian State University. She is employed by
James, McElroy & Diehl of Charlotte. Allen graduated from
Kings Mountain High School and attended Lees McRae Col-
lege. He is employed by Piedmont Corrugated Container of
Hickory. The couple plan a May 23rd wedding.
Showers Honor Beth Ellison
Miss Beth Ellison, whose
wedding to Rodney Sellers
took place Saturday, was
honored Jan.15th at a lingerie
shower hosted by Mrs.
Gene(Duck) Stone in the
Bethlehem Community.
Entertaining with Mrs. Stone
was Mrs. Gloria Spicer.
After gifts were opened the
displayed,the hostesses
fashioned a bouquet from the
bows on the packages for the
bride-elect to carry at her
rehearsal party.
Guests were invited to
serve themselves from a
decorated refreshment table
holding orange sherbet
punch, cake squares, mints
and nuts.

mauve and ivory were
featured in the table decora-
tions in the dining room and
in the foyer of the clubhouse.

A dinner of veal, miniature
vegetables, ribb lettuce salad
and lemon chiffon was served
to 100 guests.
Champagne toasts to the
bridal pair were offered by
Sandy Sewing, Parks Neisler
and Marlene Neisler, all
cousins of the bridegroom-to-
be, and Bob Maner, uncle of
the bridegroom-to-be. A song
honoring the couple was writ-
ten and sung by the
bridegroom-to-be’s twin
brothers, Andy and Scott
Neisler. Wendall Smith of
Gastonia provided piano
music during the dinner.

Ellison-Sellers Couple Wed
At Oak View Baptist Church
Oak View Baptist Church in
Kings Mountain was the set-
ting Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for
a candlelight wedding uniting
Miss Elizabeth Ann Ellison
and Rodney Lee Sellers in
marriage.
The couple exchanged
vows of the double-ring
ceremony before the Rev.
Robert Moore, minister of the
church.
Mrs. Evelyn Bridges was
organist for the program of
nuptial music and vocal
selections were by her son,
Michael Chambers. Mr.
Chambers sang ‘‘Saviour
Like A Shepherd”, ‘‘Flesh Of
My Flesh” and the benedic-
tional ‘‘Lord’s Prayer.”
Prior to the ceremony Mrs.
Bridges presented a program
of classical and religious
music.
The altar of the church was
decorated in the wedding col-
ors of ivory and mauve with
greenery banking the setting.
The pulpit area of the sanc-
tuary was decorated with
crescent-shaped candelabra
holding tapers and family
pews and each window of the
sanctuary were appointed
with crystal globes with ivory
candles and mauve bows.
A rose was presented to
both the bride and
bridegroom’s mothers as the
newlyweds left the church.
Larry Milton Ellison gave
his daughter in marriage.
The bride wore a white lace
and satin wedding gown that
had been especially made for
her mother 28 years ago by
Mrs. Albert Harper of Green-
ville,S.C. The dress was
enhanced by a satin bodice
overlaid in lace with an
overkirt of ruffled illusion net
topped by a top skirt of illu-
sion net with inserts of Chan-
tilly lace. Long sleeves and a
chapel train featured the
gown. The bride also wore
her mother’s wedding
veil,which draped over the
face during the ceremony.
The veil of double tiers of illu-
sion was attached to a cor-
onet of seed pearls.For
‘something old’ she wore
her mother’s gown and veil;
for something blue, a garter;
and as a good luck charm she
wore a penny in her shoe
given her by her grandfather.
She carried an oldfashioned
nosegay of ivory roses and
mauve flowers and wore a
string of pearls given to her
by her father.

was her sister’s matron of
honor and bridesmaids were
Mrs. Penny Sellers Mertz of
Kings Mountain, sister of the
bridegroom; Mrs. Angie

All the attendants wore
long formals of deep mauve
lace over satin with dropped
waistlines accented by bows,
high banded Victorian
necklines and sleeves puffed
at the shoulders and narrow-
ed to the wrist. They carried
ivory and mauve nosegays.
The bridegroom’s father
was best man. Groomsmen
were David Benge of
Hickory, Mark Cloninger and
Dale Champion, both of
Kings Mountain.
Ralph Dennis Brooks, Jr. of
Greenville,S.C., the bride’s
nephew, and Jonathan Dean
Mertz, nephew of the
bridegroom, carried the
rings.
Participating in the wed-
ding as honorary attendants
were Miss Yvonne Chapman
of Greenville,S.C., Miss
Robin Chapman of Rock
Hill,S.C.,and Miss Leslie
Dover of Kings Mountain.
Honorary groomsmen were
Todd Weaver, Jamie Black
and David Green.
The bride’s mother was
gowned in a two-piece anti-
que ivory silk crepe in a two-
piece design with blouson top
and long sleeves trimmed in
silk ivory tatting fringe and
long skirt. She wore a cor-
sage of ivory and mauve
roses.
The bridegroom’s mother
was gowned in light mint for-
mal featured a deep waist
with pleated floor length skirt
and long, loose sleeves. She
wore a corsage of ivory roses.
The bride’s parents hosted
the reception in the church
fellowship hall which carried
out the wedding colors of
mauve and ivory. Centering
the bride’s table was a three-
tiered cake topped with ivory
and mauve flowers and on the
center tier were china angels
which had been used on the
bride’s sister’s wedding cake
nearly 10 years ago. White
cloths overlaid the tables
which were decorated with
ivory candles in silver
candelabrum and ivory and
mauve flowers. Adding a
warm glow to the event was
the fire in the stone fireplace
of the church fellowship hall.
Silver trays held an assort-
ment of vanilla chocolate
hearts, chicken drumettes,
cheese biscuits, sausage
balls, and pine cone balls of
cream cheese and pecans and
finger sandwiches. Pink
punch was served from a
silver punch bowl decorated
with flowers and greenery.
Assisting in serving
refreshments were the
honorary attendants, Mrs.
Bob Myers,and Mr.and Mrs.
Morris Childs of
Greenville,S.C., longtime
