Shawn Smith, Brent Bagwell and Anthony Hillman were the only players from Kings Mountain on the 1987 All-Southwestern 3-A Conference football team announced last week. Smith, a guard-linebacker, fensive and defensive units. Bagwell was selected as a defensive lineman and Hillman as a defensive back. State champion Shelby led the way with 12 spots on the all-star team, including two- way selections Todd Pearson, Scott Church and Cedric Sur- ratt. Surratt, a fullback- linebacker, was named Player of the Year. Jim Biggerstaff, who coached his South Point Red Raiders to a second place finish and 9-3 overall record after going 0-10 last year, was named Coach of the Year. Smith led the Mountaineers in tackles for the second straight year despite sitting out one game with an injury. He had 113 tackles for the year and 138 for his two-year varsity career. He had 10 or more tackles in six of the nine games in which he played. Bagwell had 62 tackles from his defensive tackle position and had three quarterback sacks. His 62 tackles represent one of--if f not the highest--marks ever recorded for a defensive lineman at KMHS. He was also the team’s number two | pass receiver on offense. Hillman, a safety, recorded 70 tackles, recovered three 7 fumbles and intercepted three passes. He was also the team’s number two rusher. WITH THESE SPECIALS Johnny Dye’s team won three of four games from John Dilling Tuesday night at Dilling Heating to take over first place in the Mixed Duckpin Bowling League. Dye’s team now has a 30-26 record. Wally’s, which lost three of four to Betty Hullender, dropped to second place with a 29-27 mark. Dill- ing is third at 27-29 and Hullender fourth with a 26-30 mark. Jack Barrett’s 120 line and 317 set led Dye’s team to vic- tory Tuesday. Dilling led his group with a 120 line and 356 st and Dot Mobley added a 134-322. All three members of Hullender’s team topped the 300-set mark in Hullender’s win over Wally’s. Betty Hullender had a 121-338, R.W. Hullender a 119-325 and Pat Blanton a 119-308.
