The finish line will be in front of the gazebo at Patriots Park (corner of West Gold St. and Railroad Ave.). The first competitors are expected to come across the finish line in approximately two hours and ten minutes, he said. In addition to the triathlon, which is sanctioned by the North Carolina Triathlon Series and awards trophies and bonus points to the top fin- ishers, Noell said co-sponsor Kings Mountain | Hospital will be sponsoring a free Health Fair at Patriots Park, and several bluegrass groups will perform at the gazebo fro m10 a.m. until 12:30 am. In addition, there will be a one-mile mayor’s bike ride, and a trike triathlon for youngsters ages 7-and-under in which the youngsters will run through a swimming pool and then jump on trikes for a dash to the finish line. The winning boy and girl will receive a tricycle. Noell said the event will go on as scheduled, rain or shine. “We encourage everyone along the route to come out and cheer the athletes,” Noell said. He encourages persons who live along the routes to make sure their animals are not running loose. “We don’t want the competitors chased by a pack of dogs,” he said. Noell said he will be meeting with area law en- forcement officials Thursday to work out traffic control along major highways and intersections, - and a meeting with course volunteers is sched- uled for Thursday night. The Kings Mountain Police Department, Cleveland and Gaston County Sheriff's Departments, and North and South Carolina Highway Patrols are coordinating traffic control. Noell said volunteers are still needed, especial- ly at Moss Lake where boat and pontoon owners are encouraged to help keep an eye on swimmers in case of emergency. To volunteer, call Noell at 730-2103. Volunteers will also be needed along the routes to help law enforcement monitor major intersec- tions, and to offer water to participants at various points. The strenuous bike ride will come from Moss Lake to Kings Mountain and go through neigh- borhoods such as Crocker Road, Dixon School Road, through the three parks, and back up Highway 161 to Kings Mountain. - SOY Triathlon ef The Mouny, HAROLD E.
