The Cleveland County Red Cross
honored its Kings Mountain fund
raising heroes with a luncheon
Tuesday. The funding campaign
which raises operating money for
the local office continues.
So far Jay Rhodes, Ronnie
Hawkins, Sam Cooper and Charles
and Lynne Mauney have reached
the $1,000 goal. Other fund raising
events continue. Karen Bess of This

The Kings Mountain office is open
Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.
to 1 p.m. On Thursdays, individuals
preparing for surgery may make
analogous blood donations. First aid
and disaster training classes also are
held at night.
Volunteers are needed for the
office and to sponsor bloodmobiles.

Once again Kings
Mountain area students are
excelling at end-of-grade
and end-of-course testing.
East Elementary had the
highest scores of any school
in the county with the
exception of North Shelby
which serves the develop-
mentally delayed popula-
tion. Local middle and high
school scores are tops in the
county among those age
groups.
East score was 94.9 per-
cent. Other elementary
schools: West, 94.6;
Bethware, 91.8; North, 91.6
and Grover, 90. Scores at
noon to 4:30 p.m.
other elementary schools in
the system are: Boiling
Springs, 93.2; Casar, 88.9;
Elizabeth, 92.9; Fallston,
91.6; Graham, 87.5; James
Love, 91.7; Springmore, 93.2;
Township Three, 88.1;
Union, 91.4; Washington,
88.6 and Marion, 89.8.
Kings Mountain
Intermediate School, which
serves fourth and fifth
graders, scored 94.5 percent.
There is no other intermedi-
ate school in the system.
Kings Mountain Middle
School topped the county’s
other three middle schools
with 91.4 percent. Crest
scored 88.4; Burns, 86.4; and
Shelby, 81.2.

Kings Mountain High
School topped county high
school scores at 83.9 percent.
Crest scored 82.6; Shelby,
74.3 and Burns, 69.9.
North Shelby, which
serves students up to age 21,
scored 99.3 percent.
Davidson School, which
serves middle and high stu-
dents who would otherwise
face expulsion, scored 28.2
percent. Last year schools in
both the former KMDS and
Cleveland County Schools
sent students to Davidson
which is located in Kings
Mountain.
