BRYMER Staff Writer A Kings Mountain man who served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention went to Washington last week to watch his candidate be sworn in as president. Wayne King, one of the youngest convention dele- gates, traveled to the capital for two days of festivities. King attended the Black Tie and Boots Ball organized by Texas Republicans and the Democracy Ball organized by Republicans from North Carolina, California, Tennessee, Utah, South Dakota and Kentucky. The Black Tie and Boots gala took up three floors. Party-goers could have photographs made with a bull, sample Texas foods like tacos and brisket and dance to the music of enter- tainers including Clay Walker and Neal McCoy. King also attended a breakfast sponsored by Congresswoman Sue Myrick. The big event though was the inauguration and parade. King saw people from across the United States including a high school band from Wilson, North Carolina. Standing near King along the parade route were police officers from Minnesota and Fort Worth. Ten years ago she took her first management job at Carolinas Medical Center Pineville, then known as Mercy South. “I still really enjoy the operating room,” Hammond said. She is fascinated by the constantly changing technol- ogy and procedures like laparoscopic surgery, endo- scopic diagnostics and real- istic implants. Hammond has worked as a nurse dur- ing neuro and open heart surgery. When pressed for a favorite type of surgery, Hammond names vascular - vein and artery. Cataract surgery is the only operation to have made ‘Hammond squeamish. Early in her career she was stand- ing in the back of an operat- ing room observing the pro- cedure when a nurse asked her to come closer. Hammond declined.
