KMLT Drama Camp presents ¥ EMILY WEAVER eweaver@kingsmountainherald.com The Kings Mountain Little Theatre's Summer Drama Camp will be presenting “Alice in Wonderland” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11th and Saturday, July 12th at the Joy Performance Center. This cast of talented young actors has been rehearsing this week for a show destined to be “curiouser and curiouser.” Tickets will be sold at the box office for $2 each. : Twelve kids started the camp on June 30, 2008 under the direc- tion ‘of Kings Mountain High School Drama teacher Dan Treharne and KMHS' newest the- atre teacher Traci Morrison. Treharne said that the kids have learned or caught a glimpse of nearly every aspect of theatre. But one of the most important things they stressed during camp was getting the kids comfortable on stage and having them learn the whole process of theatre from casting to rehearsing, he said. “We've shown them every- thing we do in theatre has a pur- pose,” he added. “At the begin- & ning of camp, we show them, the- atre is one of the few places where you can work really, really hard, but also get to have a lot of fun at the same time.” ‘Alice In Wonderland’ Friday Through games and techniques children learn about the different forms of acting, like improvisa- tion or script-acting. Some of the older campers are learning about the technical aspects of theatre. Chandler Champion will be run- ning the sounds and lights up in the booth for the upcoming shows. Abigail Mansfield will be handling the costumes back stage. Some of Treharne’s current and former students at KMHS have been helping out at the camp as counselors, in charge of warm-ups. . But no matter what their posi- tion or which part of theatre campers like best, Treharne said that each one of them “walk out everyday with smiles on their faces.” He added that people are often surprised to see what the young actors can do. During rehearsals on Monday, young Matthew Brown (the King of Hearts) belted out the words “Off with your head!” with all of the gusto a mad man could muster. The hatter, march hare and mouse were per- fectly insane for their delightful tea party. Aubrey Hallman played the cool caterpillar well and Jesse Gregory and Kyra Howard made wonderfully con- fused big and little Alices.
