July 31, 2008 foe an i CLUB NEWS Grover Women’s Club awards scholarships to local students The Grover Area Women's Club recently awarded three scholarships to the following local outstanding students: Jessica Doran Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Anderson of Grover, is a 2008 graduate . of Kings Mountain High School. She will enter the University of South Carolina in Columbia this fall and plans to major in physical therapy. -Kristeen Lauren Batchler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Batchler of Grover, has been accepted at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. She will major in physical education. She is a 2008 graduate of Kings Mountain High School. Haley Selene Peeler will attend Appalachian State University in Boone, next year. She plans to major in English and minor in History. A 2008 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, she is the daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Butch Peeler. Each year the Grover Area Women’s Club awards scholar- ships to outstanding local stu- dents who are graduating from high school. The awards are given during the awards pres- entation at their school. The goal of the Women’s Club is to provide some assistance for the student to attend col- lege. Applicants are judged on their academic achievement, community involvement, finan- cial need, and leadership poten- tial. The Grover Area Women's Club is very proud of its 2008 recipients and their successful completion of high school. They have made the community very proud of their many talents, according to the club. SOCIAL BRIEFS BR Benefit Yard Sale for Jean Museum's current exhibit, “A Stitch in Time: Quilts and Camp Saturday Needlework Pre 1960,” will run JGR Auto Cleaning Service, 201 W. King Street, will be hosting a Benefit Yard Sale from 7 am.- until on Saturday, August 2nd. All proceeds will go towards a kidney surgery and medical bills for Jean Camp. For more informa- tion call 704-734-0063. Quilts and needlework exhibit at KM Museum The Kings Mountain Historical through August 23. The exhibit features decorative as well as utilitarian quilts dating from the 1840s. Needlework examples include embroidery, crewel, crochet and needlepoint. The Museum is located at 100 East Mountain Street.
