"his family, 68, went home to be with his Savior after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer, Tuesday February 24, 2015 while at home with his family. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Mary Hughes Bar- ber and John Beatty Barber, Sr. He was a hard and faith- ful worker and was em- ployed at Goforth Brothers of Shelby, Foote Mineral of Kings Mountain and retired from Duke Power Catawba Plant in Rock Hill. He was an accomplished pilot who loved to fly and attend air shows with his friends and family. He also was an avid race fan and loved working and playing with his tractors, especially with his grandsons. One of his greatest joys was travel- ing and spending time with his family. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and a former member of Beth- lehem Volunteer Fire De- partment. He loved his church and over the years has served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and Food Ministry Volun- teer. He also volunteered at the Kings Mountain Cri- sis Ministry as well as any other area of need in his community even through- out his battle with cancer. In addition to his father and mother, he is preceded in death by one grandson, Tabin Barber. He is survived by one son, Kevin Barber and wife: Rhonda; one daughter, Audra B. Price and husband Tommy all of Kings Moun- tain; one brother, Steve Barber and wife Cindy of Lincolnton; four grandchil- dren, Brison, Clay, and Colt Barber and Zack Price all of Kings Mountain. A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Saturday ,Feb. 28, 2015 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, with officiating by Rev. Steve Taylor. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial is at Bethlehem Bap- tist Church Cemetery. She was born in Cleve- l and County, | daugh- ter of the late T. A. Champion and Bes- sie Reynolds Champion. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husbands C.B. Clary, Robert Lovelace and James Hall. She was the baby of 12 children and was also preceded in death by brothers Floyd, Tommy, Gene, Howard, Jr., J.D., Lyman and Charlie Cham- pion and sisters Gertrude Porter, Annie Short, Vir- ginia Ware and by grand- son Robbie Clary. She was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, loved sewing, quilting and traveling. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sons Stephen Clary and wife Violet, Kings Moun- tain, Kenneth Clary and wife Judith , Kings Moun- tain; daughters Pam Turner and husband Wayne, Kings Mountain, Kathy Childers and husband Tommy, Gaff- ney, SC, Sara Paulette Tow- ery and husband David, Grover; 19 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Grandchild; special friends Glenda and Charlie Caldwell, Walland, TN; beloved dog Socks. Mr. Posey was born April 5, 1927 in Hatton to Elmer and Lillian (Ray) Posey. He grew up in the area and became an active member and served as a lifetime deacon at Moul- ton Baptist Church. - After moving to Decatur, Mr. Posey became a member of the Parkview Baptist Church and a member of the Joe Williams Sunday School class. Mr. Posey enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March of 1945 and served his country for two years as a medic before returning home. He was employed by Monsanto of Decatur before being transferred to Apex, North Carolina, where he retired after 26 years. While residing in Apex, Mr. Posey spent his free time coaching Pop Warner football teams, was an active volunteer with the Junior Chamber of Com- merce (JC’s) and served as the town’s first Recreation Director for many years. Mr. Posey was a loyal University of Alabama football fan and a Uni- versity of North Carolina basketball fan. His favor- ite hobbies included hunt- ing and fishing. With his fishing buddy, Roy Cooke, they reeled in enough fish and “fish tales” to feed ev- eryone. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Roberts Posey; one daughter, Deb- bie Nuding (Michael) of Zebulon, NC; one son, Keith Posey (Suzanne) of Houston, Texas; grandchil- dren, Robert Kaczynski, Michael Kaczynski, Emily Kaczynski of North Caro- lina; Kyle Posey and Alex Posey of Houston, Texas. Great Grandchildren, Erin Kaczynski and Dillon El- liott of North Carolina. Mr. Posey is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clyde and Leon Posey, and sisters Edna Crutchfield, Edith Crutchfield, Evelyn Matthews and Helen Hill. Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews. Property damage was estimated at $1100. Lai was told the teenager hit the gas pedal on the car instead of the brake. FEB. 16: Officer F. L. Wittington said that a 2008 Honda operated by Magan Hall, Prattville, AL and a 1997 Ford operated by Steven Michael Smith, 103 Apple Court, collided in the inter- section at York Road. Prop- erty damages were estimated at $4,000. FEB. 19: Officer H. W. Carpenter said that s 17-year- old male ran a stop and go light and struck a 1998 Jeep operated by Heather Streets, Bessemer City. The accident happened at the intersection of SouthWatterson and W. Mountain Streets. Property damages were estimated at $10,000. FEB. 19: Officer H. W. Carpenter said that Carolyn Petralia, Gastonia, was back- ing her 2001 Lincoln from a parking space and struck a 2005 Nissan operated by Crystal McClure, 104 Mill Creek Road. The accident happened on E. Gold Street. Property damages were esti- mated at $4,000 FEB. 20: Officer J. L. Dee said that Jose Baerga, 808 Landing St., operating a 2004 Nissan, failed to slow for Sadie Scism Patterson, 218 Putnam Lake Road, operating a 2007 Ford, to turn into Cot- ton Gin Salon and collided. Baerga was cited for no oper- ator's license. Property dam- ages were estimated at $3500. FEB: 20: Officer F. L. Wittington said that Louise Sheppard Caveny of Grover, operating a 2007 Ford, and Wanda Suggs Porter, 121 Bottom Rd., operating a 2014 Cadillac, were both backing from parking stalls at CVS Pharmacy and hit. Property damage was slight. FEB. 22: Officer J. L. Dee said that Juliet Owensby, 802 Henry St., operating a 2007 \ Chevrolet, and Damesha Joan Whitesides, 200 Par- rish Drive, operating a 2011 Chevrolet, collided in the in- tersection of US 74 Business: and NC 161 as both drivers! were merging into a turning, lane. Butler said that Robert Todd Jaycox, 604 McDaniel Rd., operating a 2006 Toyota, bumped a 2000 Chevrolet op- erated by Patricia Hardin Ball, 209 N. Carpenter St., as Ball was stopped to make a: left turn on NC 216. FEB. 23: Officer H.W. Carpenter said that James King Painter of Blacksburg, SC was towing a 28 foot long camper traveling in the south- bound lane of I-85 near Mile marker six. The rear bumper which the camper was at- tached to broke away from the 1966 Chevrolet, the camper struck the guardrail twice be- fore coming to a stop. Prop- erty damage was estimated at $20,000. FEB. 24: Officer M.D. Butler said that Leslie Ann Schmoutz, Shelby, lost con- trol o f her 2002 Honda on a snow-covered bridge at the on ramp to I-85 North, ran off the side of the road and hit a ditch. Property damage was estimated at $950. FEB. 24: Officer H.W. Carpenter said that a 1994 Chevrolet operated by Andrea Medrano, 126 Stoney Ridge Road, started sliding in the snow on the US 74 Bypass, lost control of her car and was in collision with a Chevrolet operated by Sidney Mack Culp of Mooresbore. Prop- erty damage was estimated at $750 to the Medrano vehicle and $2500 to the Cups vehi- cle. Relatives took Medrano to the hospital, FEB. 25: Officer D. K. Davis said that Sherry Watts Wells, 411 Christoph operating a 2009 ¢ struck a 1997 BMW oper- ated by Jewel Yvette Kraft, 5592 Lennox Dr., in the parking lot at Dollar Tree on ‘Shelby Road. Kraft told the officer she had a twinge ii her neck. Property damages were estimated at $4500. FEB. 26: Officer Bryan McGinnis said that Steven Hay of Irmo, SC, operating a truck for Golden State Foods of McCook, IL, struck a parked 2014 Toyota owned by Teresa Henderson, 521 Mary's Grove Church Road. The accident happened in the parking lot of McDonald's on York Road. Property damages were estimated at $3600. FEB. 28: Officer Kyle Bell said Kevin Goforth, Duncan, SC, operating a 2015 BMW on I-85, struck an unknown object in the road and left the road. Property damage was estimated at $1200.
