He was born in Cleveland County on February 21, 1920 to the late Leabron Rogers, Sr. and Mallie Led- better Rogers. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Clay Barnette Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the fu- neral home. He was formerly employed with Major Met- als in Kings Mountain. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Bob Capps and grandmother Betty Ses- soms. He loved sports, espe- cially NASCAR, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was also an avid gun collector. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert Lee Wood; daughter, Debbie: Wood Green; and brother, Billy Gene Conner, sin A member of: Harvest ‘Baptist Church, she retired from Clevemont Mills. She was a good Christian Lady who enjoyed singing and hosting a country and gos- pel singing twice a month at her home. She was a sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Five people were hospi- talized, two seriously, after a Thursday afternoon crash involving three vehicles on US 74 West near Williams Road. Trooper Russell Corry of the NC Highway Patrol said that a Chevrolet Tahoe : was pulled over and bro- ken down on the side of the westbound lane and Richie Canipe, 51, of Cherryville, driver of a Chevrolet Sil- verado, stopped to help the stranded motorist. Corry said Canipe was family with Caleb Lank- ford, his 3-year-old son and Eddie White, 57, also of Shelby, occupants of the Tahoe. Canipe had just stopped and not 20 seconds later, according to eyewitnesses, a Dodge Ram operated by Thomas Ward, 52, of Casar hit the Silverado. Canipe was helping the occupants of the Tahoe move items verado. When the collision occurred. Lankford, his son and White were all outside of the vehicle and walking back to Canipe’s vehicle. The Jaws of Life had to be used to free the driver of the Dodge Ram. Ward was airlifted from the scene to we Carolinas’ Medical Cep- ter in Charlotte. Canipe, White, Lankford and the toddler were taken to Car- olinas HealthCare Sys- tem-Cleveland in Shelby. The child was later airlifted to Charlotte. ; Witnesses said Ward was apparently swervin from the Tahoe to the Ste pp y g anid d rifting toward -the shoulder of the road before the wreck happened. = The State Highway Pa- trol is continuing the inves- tigation into the wreck. More than a dozen emergency vehicles re- sponded to the crash. KM woman dies in two-vehicle wreck, Three others sustain injuries Samantha Kay Thomas, 34, of Kings Mountain was killed and Julius “”J.A.” Dalpaz of Gastonia was se- verely injured in a two-car crash in Gastonia Monday afternoon. Dalpiaz, 83, was driving a 2006 Cadillac STS when it collided with a 1993 Honda vehicle. WRECKS AUG. 11:Officer Jon- athan Price charged Laura Beth Simmons with DWI, Cleveland, NC, after a wreck on I-85. The 2003 Chevy Simmons was d riving ran off the road and she tried to cor- rect and sideswiped a 2014 Freight liner, also traveling on I-85 South operated by Christine Monahan, Lexing- ton, NC. Only slight damage was reported to the vehicles. Sherman Thomas, 61, of Kings Mountain suf- fered facial injuries and an 11-month-old child in the Cowpens, SC and Victoria Radford, 201 Drew Court, were involved in a wreck on 1-85 North. Property damage was estimated at $700 to the Radford vehicle. AUG. 13: Officer J. L. Dee said that Cheryl Ann Floyd, 212 Floyd St., at- tempted to merge into a turn- ing lane on Cansler Street and hit a 2007 Jeep operated by Kenya Hopper of Shelby. Property damages were esti- mated at $2,000. AUG. 17: Officer J. L. Dee said that Jason Joseph Hess, 224 Beatties Road, operating a 2010 Chevrolet, failed to reduce speed and hit 22002 Chevrolet operated by Chantel Burris, 612 Charles St. Apt. 42.
