PageSA KINGS MOUNTAIN MIRROR Thursday, May 2,1974 Junior High Splits^ In Home Game Today Kings Mountain Junior High split a pair of games during the past week to run its TVi- County baseball record to 2-2 heading into a home game today against Grier at the Kings Mountain High field. Coach Porter Griggs’ charges edged previously undefeated Ashley 4-3 last Thursday but lost a heart- breaker to Crest Monday, 6-5. A 12-hit plate attack keyed Thursday’s victory. Southpaw Steve I^ncaster went the route on the mound and also led his club at the plate with 4- for-4. Kenny Self, Tim Whitaker and Darrell Queen added two hits apiece. KMJH wort the game in the fourth, breaking a 3-3 tie when Bruce Valentine reached base on an error and later scored on Lancaster’s single. Crest struck for four runs in the sixth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit and win Monday’s contest at City Stadium. David Robinson started on the mound for the locals and was charged with the loss. He was relieved in the sixth by Ronnie Wilsoa the Original Mother'!. The 7.4 season will begin the week of May 20 with six clubs competing for the regular season championship. Teams - include V.F.W. Post 9811, Macedonia Baptist Church, the KM Mountaineers and the KM Red Socks, plus Bessemer City and Tryon. Tryon is the defending regular season champion and the league all-stars are defending state champions. Only two of the KM teams have named their coaches. Jimmy White will serve as head coach of the Macedonia outfit and Max Bolin will manage the Red Socks. Any persons interested in managing either the Moun taineers or VFW should contact one of the league of ficers. Seven teams are entered in the league this season and each club will play a 12-game schedule under Dbcie Youth rules. Kiwanis, coached by Bob Short, is the defending league champion and KM’s little league all-stars are defending district champs. Coaches this summer, in addition to Short, include Emmett Moss, Lions Club; Jimmy Champion, Police; Darrell Forbes, Parkgrace; Billy Tinsley and Carroll Ledford, Rotary; R.C. Champman, Optimist; and Dennis Connor, Roy Whitaker and Datuiy Whitaker, C&C Metal.
