Gamea will be played at' 6 and 8 p.m. with KM battling Charlotte in the aecond game. The Clark Griffith National Leaguers get an opening round bye. Action continues Friday at 6 and 8. Saturday at 3. 6:30 and 8:30 and Sunday at 2:30. If a second championship game Is needed. It will be Monday at 7:30. The winner of the double- elimination event earns a berth In the state tourney In Goldsboro next week. Kings Mountain, coached by David Robinson, Lloyd Chapman and Max Brooks, Is strong defensively and hitting and has a good righthand pitching staff. KM Americans Unbeaten KM’s Jerry McDaniel Hurls No-Hitter In DYL Tourney Kings Mountain's Jerry McDaniel fired a no-hlt, 14- 0 victory over West Lincoln Tuesday night in the second round of the district Dixie Youth Major League baseball tournament at the TVyon Field. The victory put the ECM American League all-stars In a winner’s bracket feature against East Gaston last night at 6 p.m. TTie winner will sit back and wait for the final round. McDaniel walked only three batters and struck 9PORT9 out seven. He had stret ches where he retired four, five and six batters in a row. Lavar Curry led a nine- hit KM attack with 3-for-4. Eric Marable was 2-for-2, Andre Littlejohn 1-for-l and McDaniel l-for-2. In other Tuesday action, Kings Mountain National defeated Tryon 5-4 in a game that was rained out Monday and later lost a 9-6 decision to East Gaston. Edwin Sherrer hurled the victory over Tryon and also helped out in the hitting department with two hits. Sherrer’s double drove in the winning run in the fourth after Tim Barrett tied the game with a sacrifice fly. A Large Field Is Ready For KMCC Member-Guest will get the starting nod on die mound tonight. David Oobb and Jeff Clonlnger will be closeby If Robinson gets in trouble. Around the horn, KM will start Eric Dixon at first, Rick Chapman at second. Jim Chapman at short, Jim Hall at third and Bfyon White behind the plate. In the outfield will be Mark Schuman In left, (Turn to page 4A) The ninth annual Kings Mountain Country Club Member-Guest golf tournament will get un derway Saturday with an 8 o’clock start. Around 60 teams are expected for the 36-hole event which has grown Into one of the best amateur golf tournaments in the area. Several teams are capable of taking the first place trophy. Golfers will be flighted after Satur day’s 18-hole round. The top three teams In each flight will receive awards as will winners of the longest drive and closest to the hole contests. A year ago the dirt track veteran from Kannapolis, N.C. was almost un beatable at the half-mile clay oval but he has posted only one victory there this season, and now has gone 16 straight races without a win. Plyler’s lone victory came In the second LMS feature of the seaison at Metrolina. Last week Plyler and car-builder Robert Gee of Harrisburg, N.C. showed up with a brand new race car as they are trying to regain the form they had last season when Plyler won 20 of 37 LMS features at Metrolina. Ihe car didn't perform that well last Friday but the Plyler-Gee team will have the new racer back at Metrolina this Friday and It’s expected that the veteran mechanic will have the bugs worked out by then. Plyler is one of six drivers who have tasted victory at Metrolina in LMS action this season. Lavar Chirry went the route on the mound, hurling a four-hitter and striking out 16. Cooper and Batchler led the KM hit ting with two hits apiece and Plonk, Vestal and Eric Marable added one each. Grover managed only two hits in its loss to West Lincoln. Barry Phllbeck and Steve Hamrick each had a double.
