Amy’s Cooking Talent Pays Off Ten-year-old Amy Green has been cooking since before she was tall enough to reach the kitchen coun ters. Her culinary talents paid off with a blue ribbon at the recent 4-H Clubs Achievement Contest In Lincoln County where she was among four Dixon Community 4-H Club mem bers copping ribbons and awards. Amy's mother, Mrs. Frances Green, and her late father. Bud Green, Initiated her as a 4-H'er as they were reairlng their big family In the 4-H Club and serving as leaders. Mrs. Green continues as a leader In the organization. A fifth grader at Grover School, Amy likes to help her mom do the baking and her "Muffin Surprise” recipe Is always a favorite at the breakfast table and for company occasions. Other blue ribbon winners were the brother-sister team of Robbie and Sandy Wells who took first In a talent division after also winning the county competition and advancing from competition at Carowlnds to compete In Lincoln County last week. Sandl sang "Scars In The Hands of Jesus” to her brother’s piano accompaniment. They are son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carveth Wells, also of the Dixon Community. Ann Childers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Childers of the Dixon Community and a Grand Champion In the recent 4-H Achievement Day, took a red ribbon for her unique home environment demonstration on "Solar Energy-Power of the Future” in which she explained both the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy. Miss Childers noted that advantages are that power bills are cut and there Is an abundant supply while the disadvantage Is that the Installation cost for the home Is quite expensive, ranging from gS,000 to $19,000. Amy shares her prize-winning recipe with Mirror-Herald readers. MUFFIN SURPRISE 2 cups sifted flour 1 tablespoon baking powder H teaspoon salt 1 egg M, cup salad oil 1 cup milk 2 tablespoons sugar Sift dry Ingredients together In bowl. Mix beaten egg, milk, sugar. oil. Add to dry Ingredients. Stir to moist. Fill greased muffin tins two thirds full. Bake 20 minutes at 420 degrees F. For variations; add to batter-blueberries, grated cheese, shredded coconut, raisins, or crisp bacon. Add to centers of muffins; dates, cheese, spoon of Jelly. Top muffins with cinnamon sugar. The Continuing Education Department at Cleveland Tech has scheduled a National ESectrlc Code course to begin Tues., Aug. 7 at e;80 p.m. In Room 2211 on the Tech campus. Classes for the 46-hour course will meet Tuesday and Thursday 6:80 to 9:80 p.m. through September 26. Yates Mauney, a licensed electrician, will Instruct the course which Is designed to assist In dividuals who are preparing to take the North Carolina licensing examination. The course, however, Is open to any adult Interested in the electrical code. Cost for the course will be a $6 registration fee plus books.
