A member o( the Board of Directors of the Fireman’s Relief Fund, he Is on the Museum Board and Is chief fund-raiser for his favorite chairty, the Kings Mountain Fire Department Toys for Tots program each Christmas season. He is also fire department treasurer. Margie Gordon and Pete Peterson have celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary and reside at 314 Waco Road. ' \ PETE PETERSON Light Your Pilots Now Natural gas customers of the c)^ty are encouraged by Mayor John Moss to request pilot lighting as soon as possible If they want to avail themselves of free service charges. The free service charge is in effect until Oct. 16. After Oct. 16, the cut-on fee is $3. "There is always a rush for this service as soon as the first cold spell hits the area,” said the Mayor, who said that citizens can obtain this service by calling 739-8136 between 7r30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Mayor also reminds that 160 gas taps are now available and that a gas leak survey Is currently in progress. Persons suspecting leaks are advised to call Jackie Rhea at the city gas department at 739-8186. Grover Rescue Open House Grover Rescue Squad Is Inviting the community to attend an open house Sunday from 1 until 6 p.m. to Inspect the facilities and meet Squad members. "It’s our way of saying thank you to the whole community,” said Captain Buren Randle, who said, "our members are very proud of our rescue squad, our town and our community.- We would like to give you this chance to come and see the rescue squad, learn how It operates, meet some of the members and look over the equipment.” “Our members are thoroughly trained In first aid and most are certified Emergency Medical ’Technicians by the state of North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services, said Randle. He added, “These members spend many hours of their free time In training and give of themselves and their knowledge to help the people of Grover and the community on a strictly volunteer basis.” A free blood pressure clinic will be offered all visitors and refreshments will be served. Bryant noted a slight im provement over last year’s results. "We still have a long way to go,” he said, "but I feel good that we’ve made Improvement.” -(-Appointed Marian Thomasson, June Lee and BUI McDaniel as principal delegates and Kyle Smith as alternate to the Nov. 8-10 meeUng of the N.C. School Boards Association. ’The meeting will be held in Charlotte. -(-Granted several student tran sfers; accepted Robert Bradshaw, Gary Lowery and Shawn Grier from Gaston County, Brian Darrell Whetstlne from Cleveland County and released Brian Kevin Boyd to Cleveland County. -(-Approved the appointment of Mrs.Martha Bridges as (Coordinator of the elementsu'y reading and mathematics programs and William Hager as Community-Schools Coordinator, and the following teachers; Judy Gibson, KMHS; Donese A. Owens, North; James Partlow, Junior High; and Linda Walker, Central. -(-Approved the hiring of several persons In non-certified positions, which Include custodians, secretaries, etc. -(-Was told by Supt. Davis that every effort Is being made to Im prove reading scores, and Davis said results will be seen by the spring of ’81. Davis said meetings of principals and selected teachers are planned to Identify the needs of each child and address those needs with appropriate instruction. -(-Approved dismissing schools early Thursday so teachers can attend the NCAE meeting at 2:30 p.m. at the senior high. -(-Denied a request for a Multiple Sclerosis Readathon in the schools.
