Miss McOUl Is the third child of Dr. and Mrs. McOlU to attend Erskine, from which the McOills also graduated. Miss Perry’s sister, Debbie Perry Church, Is a sophomore at Erskine. Erskine opened Its 141st academic year September 7. Grover Board (Begins on page 1) will begin in approximately two weeks. He also stated that many street signs were up and that work was continuing in that area. A petition from the residents of Chesnut St. and Walnut Ave. for curbing and gutters was tabled for two weeks pending furthur in vestigation. The council went into executive session to discuss personnel problems following a motion by Martha Byers, Police Com missioner. They voted to share the gas expenditures of a new policeman hired from Bolling Springs up to $75 effective Sept, ii until he can relocate In Grover, or until Oct. 10, whichever is first. Jenkins Receives 20 Year Certificate "Be civil to all, sociable to many, familiar to few, friend to one, enemy to none." Jenkins of Kings Mountain received his 20-year retirement certificate and emblem from the Marine Corps Reserve Sunday. The ceremonies were held at the Marine Corps Reserve Training Center in Charlotte. Major Jenkins entered the Marine Corps in September 1968 as a student at Officers Candidate Course in Quantlco, Va. During the next four years he served in various billets with Air Wing Units in the Pacific Area of Operations and Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro, Ca. Upon release from active duty in 1962, Major Jenkins was assigned duty with the Marine Reserve at the Naval Air Station, Atlanta, Ga. Since that time he has served with the Reserve in many capacities in both the Air Wing Units and Mobilization Training Units. Major Jenkins is married to the former Thelma Ratchford of Dallas and they have four children. The Jenkinses reside in Kings Mountain where he Is vice-president of Pauline Knitting Mills. Brooks To Speak KMHS Coach Dan Brooks will address a breakfast meeting Monday morning of the Kings Mountain Chamber of Commerce and Merchants Association. The quarterly meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. at KM Motor Inn. Several local businesses are hosting the meeting, to which local retailers, C of C members and guests are invited to participate. Crosby Returning Home To Kiiigs Mountain ’The Attorney General’s Office announced today that effective Oct. 1 Assistant Attorney General Christopher Stephen Crosby will be leaving his post with the Depart ment of Justice to return to the private practice of law In his hometown of Kings Mountain. Mr. Crosby was appointed to the Justice Department two years ago and served as counsel to the Department of Human Resources and the State hospital system. His duties have Included litigation, as well as legislative liaison with the (3eneral Assembly and the drafting and preparation of statutes. Before coming to Raleigh, he was associated with the North Wllkesboro law firm of McElwee, Hall A McElwee where he was ac tive In corporate law as counsel to Lopp’s Companies, Inc. and Holly Ffd^a i^oultry industries. Prior to th«%osby served as law clerk to JusUce David M. Britt of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. A native of Kings Mountain and the son of Mrs. Vernon P. Crosby and the late Mr. Crosby, he is a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and obtained his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from Bast Carolina University. He received his Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest Law School and is currently a candidate for a master's in Public Ad ministration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. _ Attorney General Edmlsten characterized him, "as an excellent attorney and a valued and close friend. I am sure he will continue to render valuable service to the people of North Carolina. Cleveland <ju mty Is Indeed fortunate to have him home again. My only regret Is that We could not keep him here in Raleigh. We support his decision to return to private practice and ex tend to him the very best wishes of this office.’’ Crosby has restored the former M.L. Harmon house at 107 West King Street for use as a law office. He is married to the former Rosalie Prince Gates of Roxboro. The couple will reside at 406 Edgemont Drive. Hamrick, who made an unsuccessful bid for mayor four years ago, filed last week. City personnel regulations prohibit employes from holding or seeking political office while em ployed by the city.
