OlUe Harris of Kings Mountain has received the coveted 1979 distinguished service award from the North Carolina Public Health Association. o I) SENATOR i. OLLIE HARRIS Dr. Jacob Koomen, who made the presentation at the 68th annual meeting of the association In Asheville, said that “perhaps most significant Harris, conscious of the financial plight facing the 80 local health departments, Introduced hallmark legislation to accord significant, generalized state financial support to assist local government In meeting the pressing (Mbllc health needs of the citizens served.” Senator Harris, Kings Mountain mortician, served as chairman of the Senate committee on human resources for two terms and has shepherded through the N.C. General Assembly a host of o.'ltlcal pieces of health legislation. In cluding the monumental N.C. Safe Drinking Water Act, the Hazaradous Waste Amendments of 1977 and 1979, and an extensive modernization of the state’s vital registration laws. He personally sponsored a' significant and most timely strengthening of North Carolina’s communicable disease control and Immunization statutes. • •• And Bridges Too Bobby C. Bridges, Kings Mountain businessman, of City Auto and ’Truck Parts, has been elected president of the North Carolina Automotive Wholesalers Association (NCAWA). Installation ceremonies were held Sept. 14-16 at the annual NCAWA convention In Myrtle Beach, S.C. with more than 380 automotive parts wholesalers and distributors on hand. ’The NCAWA Is an organization comprised of automotive wholesalers from all over the state of North Carolina. “We try to work for the betterment of our Industry,” Bridges said. “Anything that we feel Is unfair to our members (we have over 400 presently) our customers, we will fight In the legislature.” Bridges has been a member of the NCAWA for 20 years and on the Board of Directors for 12 years.
