Paicr 40 —KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD—Thursday, Decrmb«‘r 13, 1»7A Poets Corner SONG OF DEUVERANCE Once I caught a small bird I locked him In a cage, His spirit was not dampened he fluttered not in rage. The cage was placed where he could see the top of the tree where he had been. He sang the sweeter all the time A true-blue singing Wren. In me he put his utmost trust I could not let him down, I released him from the holding cage he hopped upon the ground. I hid my face from view to find what he would do, He only sang a sweeter song As into the blue he flew. If you are caged today in whatever state you're in, Put trust in the one who put you there sing a sweeter song as the Wren. VIVIAN S. BILTCLIFFE A CHILD IS LOANED "I’ll lend you for a little time a child of Mine.” He said, "For you to love the while he lives And mourn for lyhen he’s dead. It may be six or seven years, or twentyRWb or three: But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for Me?’’ ’ ’He’ll bring his charms to gladden you; And should his stay be brief. You’ll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief. I cannot promise he will stay Since all from earth return. But there are lessons taught down, there I want this child to learn. ’’I’ve looked this wide world over in my search for teachers true. And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes I have selected you. Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain. Nor hate Md'whlle I come to call and Udte him back again?” I fancied that I heard them say: ’’Dear Lord, you will be done. For all the Joy your child shall bring 1^10 risk of grief we’ll run; We’ll shelter him with tenderness. We’ll love him while we may; And for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay. ’’But should the angels call for him much sooner than we’ve planned. We’ll brave therbltter grief that comes And try to understand.
