they’re shooting 64 percent from

line.
"At this point, I had no Idea
we’d be undefeated,’’ said
Napier, "simply because of the
tish of Injuries that we’ve had.
But every man has contributed a
hundred percent during practice
and that has enabled us to go to
our bench early in the season.
"David Hager, Chris
Champion and Bo Thompson
have been surprises for us," he
added. "They really have come
through. We’re getting a real
fine job of leadership from
David Peeler. He doesn’t score
many points but it’s like having
a coach of the floor when he’s
out there.
"The toughest part of our
season is coming after Christ
mas," he said. "We hope to have
Kenny Camp and Mark
Oamnlonback from the Injured
list. They will add a lot of
strength to our bench. I’m proud
of all of the guys for giving a fine
effort so far and hope they can
keep It up and bring the school
another championship.”
The girls trailed throughout
the first three periods but came
storming back In the fourth
period to post their third win In
four decisions.
West McDowell came out
smoking and led 17-9 after the
first quarter and 26-18 at half
time. KM chipped away at the
lead and cut It to five going Into
the fourth period.
Kings Mountain outscored
West 21-7 In the fourth quarter to
win going away. West McDowell
managed only three field goals
in the second half.
Trlna Hamrick led the Lady
Patriots with 17 points and
Arjuana Qirry, who hit six of
seven field eoal attempts, added
12. Teresa Freeman and Angie
Adams played well defensively
and Rene Campbell was a key
spark coming off the bench.
"The team showed great
character coming from 13 points
down to win,” said Coach Candy
Albergine. ’’The defense was the
difference in the second half.
West was bothered continuously
by our press and we were able to
take advantage of their tur
novers and turn them Into
layups.”
The jayvee girls posted their
third win in four outings
Thursday at home over West, 32-
24, but the boys dropped their
first game In four decisions, 39-
36.
The girls led the entire game
but saw a 14-point lead cut to six
in the fourth period.
"I think the girls got a little
lax, especially on defense.” said
Coach Becky Summitt. ’’West
McDowell came into the fourth
quarter with a lot of hustle $md
determination. They scored 10 of
their 24 points in the fourth
quarter.”
Lisa Ingram scored 10 points
to lead the KM offensive attack
and Sonja McClain and Tippy
Curry added eight and seven,
respectively. Curry led the
rebounding with nine and Mc
Clain added seven.
"We still have a lot of im
provement to make before we
begin our division games In
January,” Summitt said. ”Our
toughest games are yet to
come.”
The jayvees resume action on
January 7 at home against
Burns while the varsity teams
travel to Bums.
Baba Curry tossed in 18 points
in the jayvee boys’ 39-36 loss to
West. Brad Reynolds added
eight and Arnold Jordan seven.

Junior High Association record

The Patriots of Coach Phil
Weathers now take a Christmas
break before returning to action
on January 2 against undefeated
Oest.
The KM-Crest match, to be

settled by six points either

"They have an outstanding
team and I feel like if we beat
them we’ll have a good shot at
the championship.
“I hope we’ll have a lot of
support up there,” he added.
“We’re going to work hard over
the holidays and hope to be
