Rick Pasotto
Issues Statement
On Draft
Rick Pasotto, Libertarian can
didate for the U.S. Senate in the
November general election,
issued this statement on the draft
Wednesday.
Said the Chariotte buyer for
industrial textile supplies, ‘The
draft is slavery. It is nothing
more than a prelude to conscrip
tion. It is involuntary servitude.
It has no place in American
society. Registration is a major
step toward the Vietnam era
treatment of America’s youth as
cannon fodder.”
David Braatz, secretary to the
candidate, said that the Liber
tarian national committee on
Feb. 3 approved resolution op
posing any form of compulsory
registration for the draft and en
dorsing civil disobedience as an
appropriate moral and practical
means of resisting mandatory
registration and the draft
Pasotto faces Democratic op
position from incumbent Robert
Morgan and GOP opposition
from John East, neither of
whom have indicated they will
participate in a debate.
Pasotto spoke to Gaston Col
lege students recently on cam
pus.
