John Henry Moss, Mayor 7:29,31 Tourney Slated The Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department In vitational Doubles Tennis Classic will be played Friday through Sunday at the De^ Street and Kings Mountain High School courts. Some of the top doubles teams from Cleveland, Rutherford and other area counties are entered. Competition will be held in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles. Action will begin shortly after 5 p.m. Friday. The champion ship rounds in the three divisions are slated for 3, S and 7 p.m. Sunday. •We feel like we have some good doubles teams entered,” said Paul Mitchell, summer ten nis instructor for the Recreation Department. Ray and Betty Morris of Rutherfordton will be among the favored teams in the mixed doubles category and local favorites Kim Moss and Kim Gladden are entered in the women’s competition. Local teams already entered in men’s doubles include Ed Guy and Bob Jones and Tom Cox and Tom Buchanan. Cox is fresh firom winning the City Juniors crown two weeks ago. “We have 10 teams entered at present, and expect at least a dozen more to enter by Friday,” said Mitchell. ‘This tournament should prove to be a good one for the players and fans.” Tultex And Foote Out Front Eaton knocked oft Kings Mountain Knit 12-10 Monday night at Deal Street Park to throw the Industrial League soft- ball race back into a two-way tie between Tultex and Foote Mineral. Foote, which defeated Norick 22-3, and Tultex, which edged Park Yam 8-5, now own 19-6 records to KM Knit’s 18-7 mark. Broome went 3-for-3, in cluding a home run, to lead the Eaton victory. Trotter and Rob bie Montgomery added two hits each. Otis Cole was 4-for4, Jerry Gamer 3-for4 and Mike Lollis 2-for4 for KM Knit. Mike Whitaker was 3-for4 and Danny McDowell and Mike Smith added two hits each to lead Foote over Norick. Price had three hits for Norick. Jenkins was 3-for4 and Glenn Perkins and Dennis Allen had two hits each to lead Tultex over Park Yarn. Whitaker, Mauney and Peterson had two hits each for Park Yam. Football Practice To Begin Pre-season practice for Kings Mountain’s two youth football teams will begin Monday at 5:30 p.m. at City Stadium. All youngsters between the ages of nine and 13 interested in playing for the pee wee or junior midget teams are urged to attend the practice session. The teams are sponsored by the Optimist Gub and City of Kings Mountain.
