S^ptambw 1*. 1980 Mounties Travel To East Gaston Friday Kings Mountain’s Moun taineers will be facing a liungry” tribe of Warriors Fri day ni^t when they travel to Arrowhead Stadium to meet East Gaston. East Gaston, coached by former KMHS players Jerry Adams and Darrell Van Dyke, is 0-2 and eager to get in the win column in Southwestern 3-A Conference play. The Warriors have dropped a pair of close road games, 6-0 in the rain to East Lincoln and 17-14 to defending state cham pion South Point. Kings Mountain, which edged the Warriors 6-0 in the rain last year, is M, having lost to Bums 27-8 and beaten Ashbrook 19-0. It’s the first game for the War riors in their improved stadium and a huge home following is ex pected to attend the first home game. Coach Dan Brooks of the Mountaineers feels his club will have to give a similar perfor mance to last week’s if it is to be successful against the Warriors. •They look real good,” says the third-year Mountie mentor. ‘They’re quick and strong and could very easily be 2-0 instead of 0-2. They were deep in East Lincoln territory and close to scoring a couple of weeks ago, and lost a fumble, and last week against South Point they were leading 14-10 with time running out and fumbled, and South Point took it all the way for a touchdown and the win.” East Gaston has a veteran ballclub. The Warriors have 35 lettermen back from last year’s 1-9 outfit. They’ve got a real good fullback in Rod Belcher,” said Brooks. “He’s a big boy, and KM-EAST GASTON YEAR 1973 1974 1975 1976 1977 1978 1979 against South Point he carried the ball 25 times for 156 yards. He’s real strong on the dive plays. They just give the ball to him and let him run.” The Warriors have a good quarterback in junior Tom Adams. Derek Spears, the quarterback on their champion ship team two years ago, is runn ing tailback and is one of the quickest backs in the SWC.
