Pag* 4A-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thunday. S*p«*mbM 25. 1950 He Was 7-1 Last Week Fearless Is Well Again; Picks Shelby, Warriors By FEARLESS Well ‘shet mah mouth and call me handsome. Ol’ Fearless, after a 9-S record for two weeks on his prep foot ball picks and after crying a lot, came up with a 7-1 record last week and is “in the groove.” I’m up to 16-9 on the season. My only miss was East Lin coln over North Iredell last Fri day. The Mustangs fell by two points. There isn’t much time to brag, however. There’s another big week of prep games coming up Friday. First of all, we want to tell you a true story about former Belmont Comber manager and player Puddin Broome. In an exhibition game at Nor wood one day, Puddin was ejected from a game. Fie was be ing led by both arms up through the stands and into the dressing room by a couple of policewoman. A woman in the crowd yelled, “1 always heard you were crazy, Broome. Now 1 know it. If 1 were your wife. I’d give you a dose of poison.” “Yes, lady, and as ugly as you are. I’d most certainly take that dose of poison.” The lady sat down with a “plop” and Puddin had an early shower. Let’s go with a few “Love Boat” jokes this week. They’re boy and girl jokes. “When 1 went out with Fred, I had to slap his face five times,” said the girl. “Was he that fresh?” asked the other girl. “No! 1 thought he was dead!” Girl: ‘The man I marry must be brave as a lion, but not for ward; handsome as Apollo, but not conceited; wise as Solomon, but meek as a lamb; a man who is kind to every woman, but loves only me.” Boy: “Flow lucky we met!” Joe: “What’s so unusual about your girlfriend?” Moe: “She chews on her nails.” Joe: “Lots of girls chew on their nails.” Moe: ‘Toenails?” . “Do you have the book ‘Man, Master of Women?”’ the young man asked the lady librarian. “Fiction counter to your left,” the librarian replied. A school boy took home a library book whose cover read ‘How to Hug,’ only to rudely discover that it was Volume VII of an encyclopedia! Boy: Darling, I’ve lost all my money. 1 haven’t a cent in the world.” Girl: “That won’t make any a The look of success that’s always in style. Meticulous tailoring, natural shoulders, an imported blend of polyester and wool and the classic styling of Cricketeer. It's the look that lets people see you know what's right in fashion. It's the special look of success that's never out of date and It's all in this 2-button suit for all occasions. CRICKETEER EASTMOGEMAU GASTOMA, N.C. ‘ ijOpen Thurs-Friday night til 9:30 difference, dear. I’ll love you just as much...even if 1 never see you again “ Well, let’s get down to the business of trying to pick Friday night’s prep winners. Shelby, after an opening 20-0 win over Hunter Huss, has fallen to Crest, 21-0, and Bums, 28-27 in overtime. Have you ever heard of a Shelby team losing its first two league games? Friday, the Golden Lions entertain South Point in what will be a sellout. The Raiders have not put it all together yet. In three games,, it’s been one thing or another. And yet. South Point is 2-0-1. This is always South Point’s “big game.” I’m hoping the Raiders put it together, but the choice is for Shelby to win at home. Ill call it 20-17, Golden Lions. East Gaston is roiling now. They’ve looked great for the past two weeks. Friday, winless North Gaston comes to town. The Wildcats have given the Warriors a couple of good games over the past two seasons. The choice, again going with the home team, is East Gaston, 27-6. And here’s how 1 see the other games: Bessemer City 16, Fred T. Foard 14; Maiden 20, Cher- ryville 14; Kings Mountain 14, East Rutherford 10; Gaston Day 14, Providence Day 13; Lin- colnton 28, West Iredell 0; East Lincoln 20. Bunker Hill 12; Lan caster 27, Clover 6; Ashbrook 12, South Caldwell 7; Hickory 26, Hunter Huss 6. Here’s hoping your favorite team wins Friday to brighten your weekend. ”Coming^ ‘W October 7 SPECm EDITION of the Herald I® Battle Of Kings Mountain] e:.' / 1 Regular subscribers will receive this special edition in the mail.
