Lacy Hunter Thompson, 79, of Bessemer City, who died Wednesday in Kings Mountain Convalescent Center, were con ducted Saturday at 2 p.m. from Concord United Methodist Church by Rev. Harry Queen, interment following in Smyrna Cemetery. Thompson was a retired Methodist minister, having serv ed chu9..ies in North Carolina and Iowa. He was recently ac tive in Concord United Methodist Church in Bessemer City. He was a graduate of Asbury College in Kentucky and Duke University. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eva Hager Thompson; one son, Thomas L. Thompson of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Jordan of Graham; two brothers, Dewitt Thompson of Graham and Norman Thomp son of Haw River; four grand children and two great-great grandchildren. Sisk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. O.N. BAKER SR. Funeral services for Oscar Neil Baker Sr., 58, of Route 1, who died Wednesday at the V.A. Hospital in Asheville, were conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. from Second Baptist Church by Rev. David Hardin and the Rev. Bob Grigg, interment following in Westview Gardens. Mr. Baker was a native of York County, S.C., son of Mrs. Henrietta Walker Baker of Clover, S.C. and the late William T. Baker. He was a maintenance electrician for Park Dale Mills in Gastonia. Also surviving are his wife, Mrs. Agnes Barnes Baker; three daughters, Mrs. Pat Camp of Iron Station, Mrs. Evelyn Huff man of Earl, and Debbie Baker of the home; one son, Oscar Neil ^ Homecoming Is Scheduled The annual Homecoming festivities are rapidly getting underway at Kings Mountain High School. Spirits are running high as each day passes , toward the football game Friday night against North Gaston. This year’s annual homecom- A ing parade will be different. Tuesday is designated as a holi day for all city schools and businesses because of the Bicentennial activities. The homecoming parade will merge with the Bicentennial parade in which the Homecoming court will participate. This year’s Homecoming court consists of Sandi Horn, Terry Bumgardner, Bridget Glass, Cheryl Goode and Leslie Hamrick. Students will participate in special events each day of this week to boost the spirit of homecoming. Monday was Mountaineer and Patriot day in which students dressed like the historical figures. Wednesday is Country and Western day; Thursday, Fluff day; and Friday will be Black & Gold day. A special Pep Rally will be held Friday afternoon at the John Gamble Stadium to com plete Spirit Week. During the pep rally. The Mountaineer 500, a Chew Tobacco Spittin’ Con test, spirit pie in the face, and many more activities will take place. The Queen will be crowned at half-time during the North Gaston-Kings Mountain football game Friday night. Richie Land, vice-president of the SPO, will crown the Queen and will pre sent her with a bouquet of roses. INSTALLATION NEW OmCERS New officers of the Baptist Women of David Baptist Church will be installed Wednes day night at 7 p.m. at the church. McDowell, 34, of Charlotte, formerly of Kings Mountain, were conducted Saturday after noon at 3:30 p.m. in Vestibule AME Zion Church in Kings Mountain by the Rev. W.L. Adams, interment following in Webb Memorial Lawns in Shelby. Mr. McDowell was a native of Cleveland County and employed by Pelton and Crane Dental Lab. He was a member of Vestibule Church and a veteran of service in Vietnam. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Allie McDowell; his stepmother, Mrs. Lestenia W. McDowell; two brothers, Herman McDowell of Greensboro and John McDowell Jr. of Danville, Va.; and three sisters, Mrs. Prelette Tillman of Pilot Moun tain, Mrs. Clara Wall of Shelby and Mrs. Joretta Wright of Hickory. MRS. CASH Funeral services for Mrs. Eunice Jones Cash, 71, of Poplar Street, Grover, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Harris Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. George Leigh and Rev. Kelly Dixon. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Cash died Thursday mor ning at her home. She was the daughter of the late Baxter and Dessie Hender son Jones, and is survived by her husband, Grady Cash. Other survivors include four sons, Theodore Cash, Gene Cash, Ray Cash, and Carl Cash, all of Grover; two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Marie) Wray and Mrs. Edward (Shirley) Philbeck, both of Grover; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Smith of Wallinford, Conn.; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
