MRS. LEATHA WYATT

Driskill Wyatt, age 74, wife of
Euner Wyatt of 501 McCluney
St., Gaffney, died Friday in
Cherokee County Memorial
Hospital.
Surviving with her husband is
one son, Manson Wyatt of Gaff
ney; and two daughters, Mrs.
Mary Frances Whisnant and
Mrs. Betty Jean Anderson of
Kings Mountain; seven grand
children and three great
grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday
at 3KX) p.m. at Shuford Hatcher
Chapel. Burial was at Drayton-
ville Church Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Essie
Gantt Hammett, 94, of 712 Lin-
wood Dr., who died Tuesday in
Kings Mountain Hospital, will
be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m.
from Grace United Methodist
Church of which she was a
member. Rev. George Sherrill
and Rev. H.S. Scruggs will of
ficiate, and interment will be in
Mountain Rest Cemetery.
Mrs. Hammett was widow of
Doctor Franklin Hammett and
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. D.I. Gantt.
Surviving are one son, Henry
Hammett of Summerville, S.C.;
and four sisters, Mrs. Florence
Cline, Mrs. Sallie Lynn, both of
Kings Mountain, Mrs. Bessie
Elmore of Gastonia and Mrs.
Helen Stevenson of Charlotte;
and one grandchild. A son.
Mack Hammett, died 12 days
ago.
Harris Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.

Marine Pvt. James L. Mc
Clain, son of Winslow and Betty
J. McClain of Route 1, has com
pleted recruit training at the
Marine Corps Recruit Depot,
Parris Island, S.C.
During the 11-week training
cycle, he learned the basics of
battlefield survival. He was in
troduced to the typical daily
routine that he will experience
during his enlistment and
studied the personal and profes
sional standvds traditionally ex
hibited by Marines.
He participated in an active
physic^ conditioning program
and gained proficiency in a varie
ty of military skills, including
first aid, rifle marksmanship and
close order drill. Teamwork and
self-discipline were emphasized
throughout the training cycle.
A 1980 graduate of Kings
Mountain Senior High School,
he joined the Marine Corps in
November 1979.
