Had 16th Birthday Oct. 7 i) i a *it Born On Battle Day David McCraney’s 16th birth day Tuesday was a big celebra tion. It fell on Oct. 7th, the Bicentennial of the Battle of Kings Mountain. Since the day of his birth, David’s family has been plann ing to return to Kings Mountain from Dunedin, Fla. for the 200th celebration. David’s mother recalled that on the day of David’s birth, a longtime friend. Dot Harrill, also formerly of Kings Mountain, was giving birth to her daughter and both reminisced of other celebrations in town and Mrs. Harrill reminded Mrs. Mc- Craney of the anniversary. Mrs. A.P. Falls, David’s great grandmother, always kept the family informed on city celebra tions and of the Centennial of the Battle. David’s family entertained him at a big fish fry Monday at 5 p.m. at El Bethel Methodist Church and the menu was seafood from Florida. Living on the Gulf of Mexico, David’s favorite pasttime is cast netting for mullet. The family also gathers scallops, blue and gold crab, oysters and shrimp. Next weekend David is going to Mfey west for thrte day« io do some deep sea fishing. David has numerous hobbies. He got his first motorcycle when he was eight years old and now rides a trail bike. He plays chess with chess clubs in Dunedin and Clearwater. And he’s also an avid Tampa Bay Buc football fan. Music plays a big part in David’s life. He belongs to three choirs and a handbell choir at his church. The Handbell Choir spent two weeks this past sum mer touring and performing in six states. At school Chorus, he is also a member of a special 12 member ensemble. David received a 12 year perfect attendance pin recently and he is trying to break his Grandfather Falls record of 67 years of perfect attendance. He received the Dunedin Kiwanis Club Spiritual Life Award recently “in recognition of dedication to God and for outstanding contribution to the spiritual life and welfare of this community.” He is serving on the Administrative Board and on the Ministerial Council of Dunedin Methodist Church. SINGLES DANCE Singles are invited to attend Oct. 10th and Oct. 24th dances sponsored by the Advantage Club at Belmont Moose Lodge in Belmont. The Festival will be open from 10 to 6 p.m. each day. The Museum will be open both days from 1-6 pjn. The public is invited to the full two days of dancing, crafts, traders, movies, crafts and special programs. Competitive dancing will begin each day at 2 p.m. The competition includes open dance, fancy and old style, hoop dance and group dance exhibi tions. Chief Red Dawn, a Santee Sioux and special guest of the Museum for this festival, will present the program “Legend In to History,” Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Admission to the program is Cake Decorating Class The Continuing Education Department of Cleveland Tech announces Cake Decorating to begin Thursday, Oct. 9, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Burns High School.
