Alpha Delta Kappa, Interna tional Honorary Women Educators’ Society, met Sept. 29 at the home of Mrs. Howard Bryant with Mrs. Bryant and Miss Jackie Blanton serving as hostesses. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Mary Plyler and the group heard a devotional by the chaplain, Mrs. Jackie Reid. Both old and new business was discussed and various reports were made. Mrs. Margaret McCarter in troduced the speaker for the evening. Miss Doris Yarbrough from Gastonia. Miss Yarbrough is serving as District 2 Vice- President and is a member of the Beta Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa in her home town. Accompanying Miss Yarbrough was Mrs. Ruth King, immediate past president of Beta Rho. Miss Yarbrough’s remarks em phasized the heritage enjoyed by Alpha Delta Kappa members from the founders in 1947. The sorority goals have remained constant almost from the beginn ing with particular attention to recognizing women who were not only strong teachers, but who were active in religious and civic affairs. The local chapter was remind ed of the importance of building fraternal fellowship, exploring issues, and continuing to grow. High standards of education are maintained through grants and scholarships. Another important aspect of the work of Alpha Delta Kappa members consists of altruistic projects. On the state level Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina are sponsored by the sorority. During the last year $57,464.14 was raised for various charities in the state and 12,800 hours of service were contributed. The group learned much from this interesting and informative program. Members present included: Ann Bennett, Jackie Blanton, Edith Bridges, Anne Bryant, Carolyn Finger, Rachel Glad den, Sara Griflin, Hilda Kiser, Margaret McCarter, Linda Owens, Mary Plyler, Jaquitha Reid, Jan Sabetti, Jane Shields, Eddys Ware, Betsy Wells, Carolyn Westmoreland and Susan White.
