Set Saturday
The semi-finals and finals of
the Battle of Kings Mountain
Bicentennial Tennis Tourna
ment will be held Saturday at the
Kings Mountain High courts.
Semi-finals actions will get
underway at 10 a.m. in the
championship and consolation
brackets.
Rick Webber of Charlotte will
face Wilton Price of Forest City
and late entry Rick Henderson
of Kings Mountain will meet
Charles Bragg of Charlotte in the
championship bracket.
In consolation semi-finals
play, Chris Keeter of Grover will
face Bob Phillips of Gastonia
and Steve Hudgins of Belmont
will play Calvin Davis of
Charlotte.
The tourney was scheduled to
be completed last Sunday but
was postponed due to rainy
weather.
Webber outclassed two op
ponents in earlier play, defeating
Steve Huggins of Belmont 6-0
and 6-0 and Mike Craig of Mt.
Holly 6-0,6-0.
His opponent. Price, had a
tougher time, defeating former
Kings Mountain Junior High
basketball coach Ken Napier,
6-3, 6-3, and James Perry, 6-1,
3- 6 and 6-3.
Henderson defeated Richard
Brownstein of Charlotte 6-1,6-2,
but had to go three tough sets to
whip Tony McCraw of Dallas,
4- 6, 7-6 and 6-3.
Henderson’s foe, Bragg, had
easier matches, defeating Calvin
Davis of Charlotte, 6-1 and 6-1,
and Woods Martin of Lowell,
6-2 and 6-1.

speaker. Rev. Gerald Weeks,
pastor of Resurrection Lutheran
Church, gave the invocation.
“Leadership is a difficult and
rewarding task,” said Causby, as
he commended the student
leaders as the future leaders of
this city and state. Citing a
quotation from Charles Dickin
son, the speaker elaborated on
the similarity of that century and
today. “It was the best of the
times and worst, the age of
wisdom and foolishness, the spr
ing of hope and the winter of
despair.”
