Wells Jr., Mrs. Frank Peele, Mrs. Lucille Bullard and Mrs. J.A. Lutz, all of Bessemer City, and Mrs. Clarence Bobbitt of Statesville; and eight grand children. MRS. EVELYN BYERS Mrs. Evelyn Brown Byers, 52, of 10 East 132nd St., Manhat tan, New York, died Friday mor ning in a New York hospital. A former Kings Mountain resident, she was daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Brown of Kings Mountain. Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete, will be announc ed by J.W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home. HENRY MELVIN BARNES Funeral services for Henry Melvin Barnes, 69, of Rt. 1 Bessemer City, who died Wednesday at his home, will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock from the Chapel of Harris Funeral Home, interment following in Bethlehem Cemetery. Rev. George Leigh will of ficiate at the rites. Mr. Barnes was a native of Knoxville, Tenn. and a retired textile employee. He was also a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Arlecia McMahon Barnes, one son, Lionel Barnes of Houston, Texas, two stepsons, Conley Dixon of Seymour, Tenn. and Earl Dbcon of Knoxville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Leona Tipton and Mrs. Juanita Crain, also of Knoxville, Tenn. and one sister, Mrs. Mamie Short of York, S.C. and one grandchild. Mr. Barnes was the son of the late William and Nancy Bolin Barnes. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. MRS. FRANCES SHORT Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Short, 43, of 813 Church St., who died Wednes day in Gaston Memorial Hospital, were conducted Sun day afternoon at 2 p.m. from Cherokee Street Baptist Church by Rev. George Leigh, interment following in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Surviving are her stepfather. Coy Lee Fiiedell; one son, Keith Childers; one brother, Johnny Short, all of Kings Mountain, and two grandchildren. HAZEL I. BROWN Hazel J. Brown, 52, Projects Manager for the Cansler Street Urban Redevelopment Project, died Sunday morning of an ap parent heart attack. Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete, will be announc ed by J.W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home. Mr. Brown had retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of military service. He was a member and treasurer of Galilee United Methodist Church and secretary of Masonic Lodge No. 4 of Kings Mountain. He was a Kings Mountain native, son of Hazel Brown, Sr. and Mrs. Ina Virginia Couser, both of Kings Mountain, who survive. Also surviging are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Perkins Brown, and their daughter, Tanya Brown, of the home on Route 1. MRS. ODELL BARRETT Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Louise Howell Bar rett, 57, of Route 2, wife of Odell Barrett, were conducted Satur day at 4 p.m. from Bethany Bap tist Church of Grover of which she was a member. Rev. James Sanders was assisted by Rev. Wray Barrett and Rev. Marvin Greenway in officiating at the rites and inter ment was in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Barrett was daughter of the late William Thomas and Sarah Jane Dixon Howell. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are one son, Wendell Barrett of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Mrs. James (Joyce) O’Brien of Lawndale; four brothers, James Howell of Grover, William Boyd, Ray Howell and Roy Howell, all of Kings Mountain; and three sisters, Mrs. Pat (Mabel) Teague of Lenoir, Mrs. Elmer (Betty) Page and Mrs. Frank (Grace) Ledford, all of Kings Mountain, and four grandchildren. Masters Funeral Home was in (Charge of arrangements. ALBERT LEWIS IR. Funeral services for Albert Lewis Jr., 38, of Bessemer City, who died at his home Sunday, were conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. from St. John’s Holiness Church in Bessemer City by Rev. W.O. McCullough, inter ment following in Community Cemetery. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Daisy Smith of Bessemer City; his stepfather, Samuel J. Smith of Bessemer City; a daughter, Lucinda Brown of Gastonia; two brothers, Robert Lee Lewis of Bessemer City and Clarence Lewis of Baltimore, Md.; a half brother, Theodore Smith of Kings Mountain; a stepbrother, Odell Walker of Dallas; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth McNeal and Miss Shirley Smith of Bessemer City, Mrs. Betty Floyd of Gastonia and Miss Janie Mae Lewis of Yonkers, N.Y. J.W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of ar rangements. CLYDE BLANTON Funeral services for Clyde Durham Blanton, 67, of Cher ryville, who died Tuesday in a Lincointon hospital, were con ducted Friday at 3 p.m. from Shady Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Dan Silver and Rev. Clarence Bobbitt, interment following in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Kings Mountain. Mr. Blanton was a native of Cleveland County and a retired merchant and veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War 11. He was the son of Paul D. Blanton of Kings Mountain and the late Minnie Dellinger Blan ton. Also surviving are his wife.
