MATTIE ORR BARNETTE Mrs. Mattie Orr Barnette, 70, of Route 1, died Tuesday after noon at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte. She was the wife of Jimmy Barnette, who survives, in addi tion to three sons, Harold Barnette of New York City, Gareth Barnette of Baltimore, Md. and Michael Barnette of Gastonia; four daughters, Mrs. Aileene Feemster of Bessemer City, Mrs. Nina Floyd, Mrs. Dolly Adams, both of Kings Mountain, and Mrs. Brenda Gordon of Gastonia; 21 grand children and five great grand children. Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete, will be announc ed by J.W. Gill and Sons Funeral Home. HAZEL I. BROWN Funeral services for Hazel J. Brown, 52, who died Sunday morning of an apparent heart at tack, will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m. from Galilee United Methodist Church of which he was a member and treasurer, in terment following in Adams Chapel Cemetery with masonic and military rites. Dr. T.A. Powell, Rev. Victor Carson, Rev. Samuel Jackson and Rev. R.L. Garvin will of ficiate at the rites. Mr. Brown had retired after 20 years service with the U.S. Okays Project Grover’s Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to renovate Town Hall and turn the old Police Chiefs Office into the business office. In a special 20-niinute session, the board also voted to use the current business office as a com bined police chief-mayor’s office. Grover will greet its new police chief, Mike Brown, Sun day afternoon, and called the special session so work can begin immediately in hopes of having it near completion by his arrival. Brown, 27, is a Kings Moun tain native and for the past year has served on the Hickory Police Department. He is married to the former Susan Owens of Kings Mountain. He will be sworn into office at 2 p.m. Sunday in special ceremonies at Town Hall. The board has been discussing renovating Town Hall for several months. The new business office will include a counter which will prevent customers from coming around the clerk’s desk, new panelling and a lowered ceiling. Signs will be painted on both doors, designating one side of the building as the business office and the other side as the piolice department. In other matters Tuesday, the board: —Authorized the purchase of $130 worth of equipment for the police department. ^ c- . EVELYN BYERS Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Byers, 52, of Manhattan, New York, will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. from Bynum Chapel AME Zion Church, interment following in St. James Cemetery in York County. Rev. Victor L. Carson, Rev. Howard Shipp, Rev. R.L. Gar vin and Rev. M.L. Campbell will officiate at the rites. The body will be taken to the church at 6 p.m. Friday and the family will receive friends from 7 until 7:30 p.m. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fields Simmons on N. City Street. MINNIE CLEG WEBB Funeral services for Mrs. Min nie Cleo Webb, 93, of 102 N. Dilling St., who died Wednesday at North Carolina Lutheran Home in Albemarle, will be con ducted Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. from St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Harwood T. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at Fallston. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. Mrs. Webb was the widow of John Webb and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Smith. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. James Carpenter of Kings Mountain; two granddaughters, Mrs. Jim Lybrand and Mrs. Houston Wolfe, both of Kings Mountain; and four great grandchildren.
