Haunted House Opens Friday The Kings Mountain Jaycees* Haunted House, or “Dracula’s Castle”, opens Friday at 8 p.m. in the old Masonic Building on East Gold Street. Entrance is on East Gold beside D&D Electric. The haunted house will run through October 31. Doors will open at 7:30 every night except Friday. Admission is one dollar. COUMCIL MEETING Oeveland County Interagen cy Council will meet Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Jackson’s Cafeteria. The October program will be given by Dawn Martin, Director of Child Abuse Preven tion Services. CRAFTS Gail Metcalf is instructing classes in hand crafts on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m. at the Communi ty Center under sponsorship of Cleveland Tech. On Monday, a junior Class meeting was held for the discus sion of the ordering and purchas ing of Class rings. The Josten’s Company requires a twenty dollar deposit when the rings are ordered. The award goes to those com munities under 15,000 persons which meet requirements design ed by the N.C. Department of Commerce to make them more competitive in recruiting in dustry. “1 want to commend the job done by the citizens of Kings Mountain. Their participation in this program is an example of the outstanding community spirit and desire for progress that we see throughout North Carolina,” Governor Hunt said. Each award winning com munity will receive highway signs designating it as a Com munity of Excellence. The North Carolina Department of Commerce will give special pro motional attention to the award winning communities when working with industries looking for a plant site in North Carolina. Among the standards a com munity must meet to win the award are: 1. An economic promotional organization must exist. 2. A development corpora tion to finance the construction of industral building that can be leased or sold and that can op tion purchase and sell property must exist. 3. A certain number of in dustrial sites must be available. 4. A clean-up, fix-up cam paign must be completed. Ove 500 business and com munity leaders are expected for the Economic Development Conference at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh beginning at 1:30 p.m. In addition to presenting the Community of Excellence Awards, Governor Hunt will also be the main speaker at the dinner. The keynote speaker will be Edson D. deCastro, president of Data General Corporation of Westboro, Mass. Data General is one of the fastest growing elec tronics companies and has two facilities in North Carolina and a third under construction. The winners are, Steve Baker with a 1965 Corvette, Bob Smith, with his 1971 MG Midget, and Robert Lutz with his Pontiac Firebird Formula. Mrs. Diane Harper’s art classes are constructing a mural to be painted on a school wa^ The mural, designed by Bonhit Sheffield, includes studies, athletics, and extra curricular ac tivities. The mural will be drawn by Robert Lovelace and Bonnie Sheffield, and will be painted by the Art 11 and Art III classes.
