Col. Charles E. Painter, Depu ty for Engineering and Evalua tion for the Air Force Acquisi tion Logistics Division (AFALD), has retired from ac tive duty in the Air Force. In ceremonies at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio Wednesday (Oct. 29), Colonel Painter’s 26-year military career ended. Colonel Painter was born in Kings Mountain, on February 17, 1934. He graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1952 and received his commis sion in 1954. His first assignment was as a B47 combat crew navigator- bombadier at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. Other assignments in the navigator and navigator- bombadier fields took him to McConnell AFB, Kan., and Bergstrom AFB, Texas. In 1966, Colonel Painter entered the Air Force Institute of Technology here at Wright- Patterson, graduating in 1969 with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in aerospace mechanical engineering. He served with the 14th Special Operations Wing in Viet nam from April 1970 until April 1971, when he returned to Wright-Patterson as a propul sion engineer in the Aeronautical Systems Division. In August 1977, Colonel Painter was assigned to the Oklahoma City air Logistics Center at Tinker AFB, Okla. He was chief of the Engineering Division of the Directorate of Material Management and later became chief of the Propulsion Far East Program Topic Mrs. Charles F. Mauney will present a program on her trip to the Far East at Wednesday’s meeting of the Good Earth Garden Club at 7:30 p.m. at First Federal Savings & Loan Association. The program will include a slide presentation. Mr. and Mrs. Mauney attended a Rotary Con vention in the Far East. ii with one oak leaf cluster, the distinguished Flying Cross, the air Medal with six oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Com mendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Painter, live at 107 Cleveland Ave., Kings Moun tain, N.C. His wife, Teresa, is the daughter of Mrs. Sofie Lazano, of Harlingen, Texas.
