The two clubs return to Kings MoCmtaln on Wed., Nov. ae, to host West Charlotte In their first action In front of the home fans. The West Charlotte doubleheaders will be the only non-conference action of the year for the KMHS teams. Southwestern 8-A Conference play begins on December 3 against East Oaston. The non-conference bouts will give KMHS coaches John Blalock and David Brinkley a chance to see their charges under fire against a pair of teams that are usually con tenders In the rugged South west 4-A Conference. The Mountalneeres, 8-12 a year ago, are expected to be one of the top two teams In the SWC this winter along with defending state a-A champion R-S Central. The KMHS girls are young and Inexperienced, but are talented, and Coach Brinkley feels they could develop Into one of the best teams In the league. • • • • Coach Blalock returns four of his five starters from last year. Including Terrence Blalock, Gerald Byers, Demetrius Goode and Carl Smith. The fifth starter, replacing most valuable player Erie Dixon, who graduated, wUl be TOdd Wray. Blalock also has a host of Juniors who helped the Jayvee team win the conference crown last year. They Include Jimmy Brown, Vince Roseboro, Bruce Young, Tim Bell, Novelle Young, Wayne Brown and Paul Ingram. The Mountaineers expect to field a quick, fast-breaking taem, featuring one of the best ballhandlers In the area In Smith, a S-10 point guard who was Injured much of last season. "We’re still young, with four juniors In the starting lineup, but everybody looks to be Improved and we should have a good season," Blalock says. Brinkley, beginning his second year at the helm, will be looking to a lot of aophomoree Md juniors for starting duty and key reserve roles. "Inexperience will hurt us at the first of the year," he says. “We have eight sophomores but they have a lot of talent. ’They will have to help us out." Others being counted on by Brinkley are Angle Bell, Glenda adams, Prlacllla Odoms, Arjuana Curry, Elizabeth Floyd, Gloria Campbell, Trlna Hamrick, Rhonda Kimble, Angle Adams, ’Teresa Freeman and Linda Stowe.
