BUIS. STROUPE
Funeral services for Mrs. Lois
Jeanette Campbell Stroupe of
Kings Mountain were conducted
Wednesday afternoon at
Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church
by Rev. Mitchell Pruitt and Rev.
Roy Hannagan. Interment was
in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Stroupe died Saturday in
Charlotte.
Mrs. Stroupe was the
daughter of the late Virgil Camp
bell of Kings Mountain and Mrs.
Blanche Craig Campbell. Surviv
ing, in addition to her mother,
are three daughters, Mrs. Kim
Marie Brooks of Lincointon,
Mrs. Dawn Marie Slingerland of
Charlotte and Mrs. Renee Marie
Reese of Ravenna, Ohio; two
sisters, Mrs. Claudie Ryvicki of
Buffalo, N.Y., and Mrs. Aline
Reid Lasky of Charlotte; two
brothers, Cecil Campbell and
Otha Campbell; and three grand
children.

Club’s Short-Short Story Con
test, sponsored by the Lex
Marsh Foudnation. Deadline for
entries is Nov. 25. Non-members
who live in the Metrolina area,
as well as all Club members, are
invited to submit original, un
published manuscripgs of bet
ween 500 and 2,000 words. The
entry fee for non-members is
$3.00. Writers are limited to one
entry only.
Three typewritten copies of
each entry are required.
Manuscripts must be double
spaced on one side of the paper
only, with the number of words
noted in the upper right corner
of the first page.
The author’s name must not
appear on the manuscript; it
should be on a separate sheet
along with the author’s address
and telephone number, as well as
the story title. A stamped self-
addressed envelope should be
enclosed for return of
manuscript.
Those writers who have had
three or more acceptances or
sales of short stories in the past
year are ineligible. Mail entries

TURKEY DINNER
The Chestnut Ridge
Volunteer Fire Department will
sponsor'a turkey dinner Satur
day from 11 a.m. until 7 pan. at
the Chestnut Ridge Baptist
Church recreation building.

CHERRYVILLE — Funeral
services for Coleman 1. Williams,
71, father of James Edward
Williams of Kings Mountain,
were conducted Monday at 3
p.m. from Mull’s Memorial Bap
tist Church by Rev. Wade Dell
inger, Rev. Max Pendleton and
Rev. David Wesson, interment
following in the church
cemetery.
Mr. Williams died Saturday
afternoon in a Morganton
hospital. He was the son of the
late Ed and Victoria Russ
Williams and had worked 20
years for Dover Textiles.
Also surviving are his wife,
Mrs. Essie Davis Williams; four
other sons, a daughter, two
sisters, two brothers, 24 grand
children and eight great
grandchildren.

services for John W. Yar
borough, Jr., 65, of Route 4,
who died Sunday in
Presbyterian Hospital, were con
ducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. from
Steele Creek Presbyterian
Church by Rev. Lewis Bledsoe
and Rev. Bob Cogswell, inter
ment following in the church
cemetery.
Mr. Yarborough was owner
and operator of Yarborough
Heating and Plumbing Co. and a
member of Steele Creek
Presbyterian Church and the
Charlotte Yacht Club.
Surviving are his wife; a
daughter; and two brothers, in
cluding Richard Yarborough of
Kings Mountain, and seven
sisters.
McEwen Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Retired
Navy Chief Petty Officer Walter
Edward Bumgardner, 51, of
Norfolk, Va., brother of Pauline
Goudlock of Kings Mountain,
were conducted Saturday from
HoUomon-Brown Funeral Home
Nofolk, burial with military
honors in Forest Lawn
Cemetery.
A native of Belmont,
Bumgardner was a veteran of
the Korean and Vietnam Con
flict and was retired from the
U.S. Navy afater 20 years ser
vice.
Also surviving are his wife,
two sons, his father, one sister,
and three brothers.
