DKsmbsr 4. 1980-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD Pag* 3A Kings Mountain High School placed nine athletes on fall sports All-Southwestern 3-A Con ference teams announced this week by league statistician Gerald Men of Shelby. In addition, two KMHS coaches finished second in coach of the year voting and two athletes were second in player of the year voting. Tackle Darryl Strong and safe ty Markus Hager were named to the defensive unit on the AU- SWC football team, which was dominated by players from the championship Crest team and third place R-S Central. Crest landed eight players on the squad and R-S seven. Bridget Glass, Kim Moss and Jamie Humphries of KMHS were named to the All- Conference girls tennis team and Glass was second to Shelby’s Bonnie Wilkison in player of the year honors. KMHS Coach Ed Guy finished second to Shelby’s Art Moss in voting for coach of the year. Bernard Womic, Carl Smith and Jimmy Brown of the Moun taineers made the All- Conference cross country team. Womic was runner-up in voting for player of the year and Coach John ^ock was second in the coach of the year voting. Diane Williams, last year’s player of the year, was named to the All-Conference girls volleyball team. She failed to repeat as player of the year as that honor went to Kim Connor of the league champion South Point team. John Taylor of Crest was the football coach of the year and Troy Harris of R-S Central was player of the year. The comfriete all-SWC teams include: FOOTBAU OFFENSE QB — Troy Harris, R-S. CROSS COUNTRY Marcus Cash, Carl Murray, Aaron Patterson, Doug Mc- Banquet Thursday The Kings Mountain High football banquet will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the KMHS cafeteria. Mike Working, first-year head coach at Appalachian State University, will be the guest speaker. Athletic Director Dan Brooks said dinner will be served promp tly at 6:30 and the program will begin promptly at 7 o’clock. Highlight of the fete will be the presentation of trophies to deserving members of the 1980 KMHS eleven. The banquet is sponsored by the Mountaineer Club. Yule Concert Is Dec. 11 A Christmas Concert by the Kings Mountain Senior High School Chorale and Ensemble and the Ninth Grade Choms will be presented Dec. 11th at 8 pjn. in B.N. Barnes Auditorium. The program is free and open to the public. Gene Bumgardner will direct the Christmas musicale and their final selection of all three choirs of 125 voices will be “As It Fell Upon A Night”.
