A two week series of events in volving five states is being plann ed for the 200th anniversary of the Revolutionary War Battle of Kings Mountain. One of the events could be an appearance by a major political figure. Elaine Hullender, 21, is the KM area’s first female firefighter and she fights with the same dedication as her 32 male counterparts in Bethlehem Fire Department. It’ll be back to school Monday for an estimated 4,500 students in the KM School District. As expected, the city board of commissioners adopted the recommendation of Southeastern Consulting Engineers Monday night and up ped the electric rates an average of 10.5 percent. SEPTEMBER At least 100 petitions calling for a referendum on creation of an ABC store and off premises sale of beer and wine are being circulated in Kings Mountain. Petitions of thousands of angered taxpayers are expected to be presented to the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners at the Sept. 15 meeting in Shelby by a citizens group who also ex pect to field a slate of Democratic candidates to oppose incumbents in the general elec tion.
