Foote
Wages
Hiked
Foote Mineral of Kings
Mountain has announced a 10
percent across the board pay in
crease effective October 1, and
has also announced im
provements in its pension, holi
day and other employee benefits.
Larry Wood, Personnel
Manager, said the increases were
due to the employees “produc
tivity and efforts.”
Wood also announced that
Foote recently exceeded 600,000
employee hours and one year’s
time without a lost time acci-
dent.
A safety awards barbecue will
be held on October 30.
Numerous safety awards will be
presented and all employees will
receive an imprinted shirt. The
company will receive a plaque
from Liberty Insurance Com
pany in recognition of its safety
record.
Treating all the other persons
and trying to free the pinned in
victim is lime consuming, and
the Jaws of Life is required, as
well as other equipment.
This accident has happened
only on paper, but there are ac
cidents that require the use of
equipment such as the crash
truck, pagers and Jaws of Life,
which could not have been pur
chased had it not been for
monies received from the Kings
Mountain United Fund.
The Rescue Squad has used
United Fund money to purchase
equipment that is necessary for
the saving of lives almost every
day. They range from com
munications equipment such as
the pagers the rescuers wear on
their sides, to other equipment
such as the following:
The crash truck, which carries
almost all extracation equipment
taken to all wrecks, rough ter
rain such as mountains, hiking
accidents, etc.
The Jaws of Life, costing in
excess of $5,890, which is used
to free people trapped in wreck
ed cars and trucks, and which
can also be used ds a cutting tool
and to lift heavy equipment such
as tractors.
Scuba diving equipment for
retrieving drowning victims.
Hand-held radios and other
communications equipment.
It is hard to put a price on a
human life. If it had not been for
the United Fund, certainly
numerous lives would have been
sacrificed or lost because the
Rescue Squad would not have
had the type of equipment which
is necessary to make Kings
Mountain a safe place to live and
play. The Kings Mountain
Rescue Squad is appreciative to
the Kings Mountain United
Fund and the people who sup
port that great organization, and
encourages all citizens to give all
the support they possibly can to
the 1982 United Fund drive.
RESCUE EQUIPMENT - The crash truck and
Jaws of Life cutting tool and generator, pic
tured above, are equipment purchased for the
Kings Mountain Rescue Squad through
United Fund money. The Rescue Squad will
receive $8,000 of the coming year's United
Fund $63,000 budget.
