For one hour each day the father would sit in a large chair and talk with or help any of his children with any problem they had. Also, for one hour each day Jonathan and Sarah would take a ride from the children so that they could nurture their relation ship. What has come from this devout family? Was Sarah Ed wards’ investment of her life well-spent? By 1900 the eleven irS A GIRL Mr. and Mrs. Randy C. (This illustration is documented in Catherine Mar shall’s Something More, p. 76)’’ Clearly, w hether from parents or surragates, concern pays dividends. ,A well-coordinatyed volunteer program based on con cern can make an outstanding contribution to any school. / The intangibles of our lives are those things we feel a sort of quiet pride about and the loyalty to, w hich often say more about who we are than the visible facets about us. To many of us, our pride in being a part of the Kings Mountain District School System is one of those in tangibles. We solicit parent in volvement to make this a stronger and better system. We have any number of on going programs that parents and citizens may participate in, such as: The Kings Mountain Reading Program, Library, Shops, Art, Music, P.E., Cafeterias, etc. Volunteers are also needed in organization such as: P.T.O./P.T.A., Booster Club, w here we have a variety of ac tivities for parents to perform. Early Prevention of School Failure, and extensive screening conferencing, and planning pro gram with parent and students prior to students enrolling in school. Other ways for parent in volvement are: Community .^ Schools, making the school “our iS'school” instead of “their school”. School Advisory Councils, re quired by Title 1, Exceptional Childrens Program etc.. Blue Ribbon Committee, appointed to study present conditions and make recommendations and priorities for the future. In this school system we do want open communication and parent involvement. t /R •) « r|5 •) CHARACTERS AND TIN MAN - Roger Moss, front row. center, dressed up as the tin man from the Wizard of Oz for Bethware School's Story Week Book Character Day Friday.
