Joe Bridges Wins U.S. Leadership Award The United States Achieve ment Academy has announced that Joseph Edward Bridges of Kings Mountain has been nam ed a 1982 United States National award winner in leadership. The award is a presitgious honor very few students ever at tain. In fact, the Academy recognizes less than five percent of all American junior high students. Bridges attends the eighth grade at Bessemer City Junior High. He will appear in the United States Academy Official Tech Course Is Scheduled Cleveland Technical College announces a three week mini course in Career Planning for unemployed men and women, displaced homemakers, and single riarents. This course will concentrate on the areas of confidence building, skills assessment, career interest, and basic job search skills training; and will begin on Wednesday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday-Friday, with counseling time available in the afternoon. Dianne Ledbetter will be the coordinator/instructor and Ellie Buse, will serve as job developer consultant. This course is open to adults 18 years of age and over. Students joined other students and adults around the state in the project which was directed toward all aspects of the state’s social order, including school. business and the home. Fourth graders at North heard several persons speak about “Life in North Carolina.” Allen and Betty Jolley of Kings Mountain presented a show of slides and tales about North Carolina’s many attrac tions. Mrs. Ethel McGinnis and Miss Annie Roberts gave a talk on how quilting started and the history of quilting and displayed many of the quilts they have made. Senator Ollie Harris told the children about all the activities in Raleigh and how they affect their lives. Mrs. Roxanna Gaffney, Miss Carol Parker and Mrs. Connie Bell are the fourth grade teachers who were in charge of the program. Yearbook, published nationally. The criteria for selec tion are a student’s academic performance, interest and ap titude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a teacher or director. Joe is the son of Deaver (Joe) and Ann Marie Bridges of Kings Mountain. He is the grandson of Lily B. Dolan and the late John J. Dolan of Cranston, R.L, and Helen and Arnold Bridges of Kings Mountain. Jane Tackett Graduates Mrs. Jane Tackett of Dothan, Ala., has graduated Magna Cum Laude from Troy State Universi ty. She received the Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Tackett is the former Laura Jane Campbell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George N. Campbell of Kings Mountain. She is a 1977 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and at tended Converse College for three years prior to transferring to Troy State. She is presently employed by the Dothan City School System.
