Re' - . M F. Booker, made the call to worship and the junior choir marched in singing. ''None But The Righteous ’’ After the choir had taken its place it sang. “Gloria Patna." We vt'ere then led in prayer by the pastor while the choir softly chanted. “It. Is No Secret " Tire hrst hymn of the morning by the choir was, “He Brought Me Out." The scripture lesson was read by the pastor from 2nd Kings, 2nd chapter, verses 1-28. afterwhich prayer was offered by Deaco Ev ans. The mission offering was lifted while the choir sang. ‘ Jesus Hear Me Praying.” This offering was blessed by Deacon Holloway. The announcements of the week and ihe introduction of the visit ors were then made The general offering was lifted ss the choir sane. “Jacob's Lad der ' Toe offering was then con secrated. Before the pastor began bis ser mon the choir sang, "Just A Little Talk With Jesus."- Die pastors sermon was built around the 15th verse of the 2nd chapter of the 2nd book of Kings. He used as bis theme, "The Spirit of Elijah.’’ It was a wonderful ser mon and enjoyed by all present. Glover, Jr. after spend ing a short vacation with his mot her, Mrs B. W. Mason, has return ed to Paterson. New Jersey. Strassner. presi dent of Shaw University left on June 30. for Mars Hill to partici pate in an interracial fellowship meeting. On July 6, he will leave for Toledo, Ohio for a meeting in connection with Die United Negro College Fund Campaign, His previous engagements for June included a meeting of the executive board of the United Neg ro College Fund at Cepahosie, June 5-18. Broiied Chicken with dressing. Meat Loaf. Coliards, Hot Rolls, Iced Tea. and Lime-ice Sherbet This happened to have been the birthday celebration of Mrs. Perry. After dinner, the guests sang “Happy Birthday," and a birthday cake with candles burning plus a purse were presented to Mrs. Per ry. This closed a lovely affair. Barber of the Garner Consolidated High School left last Saturday morning as delegates to the National Edu cation Convention, which is being held in St. Louis, Missouri, June 28 to July 3rd. Mr Barber is president of the ’ North Carolina State Teachers Association. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Paul Johnson at the Martin Street Bap tist Church on Thursday,. July 2 ai 4 p. m. Her body was Interred at the St. Matthews Cemetery. Mrs Crews was the wife of the late Jonah Crews and the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kear ney of Frankiinton. She was a graduate of Christian College In Kittrell and a pioneer school teacher in Granville County. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Josephine C. Whit- Vy of Raleigh and Mrs. Eliza C. Young of Washington, D. C. and one grandson, William Earl Young of Raleigh. MRS. MARY HERNDON Mrs. Mary Herndon of 101 N. Pettigrew died on Sunday. June 21 and was on buried Wednesday, June 24. Funeral services were held at the Lillington Star Baptist Church Thr body was interred at the Esley Chapel Cemetary. Mrs. Herndon is survived by her husband, Johnny Herndon. MRS. ESTHER PERRY Mrs. Esther Perry of Providence, Rhode Island and formerly of 7eb tilon, Rt 4. died at St. Agnes Hos pital on Thursday. Ben Peter son. Scripture lesson was read by our pastor from 2nd Timothy, 2nd Our 2nd hymn. “Guide Me. O. Thou Great Jehovah." was sung chapter, comprising 18 verses, as the congregation sat in rever ence. The minister then chose his text from the sa.rr e scripture read, 2nd Timothy, 2:15, "Study to show thy self approved unto God, a work man that needed not to be asham ed, rightfully dividing the word of truth." The minister began by say ing that to study is to read in par ticularly God s Word because His Word is right, and it is the source from which we obtain "Eternal Life" A very powerful and spiritual message developed out of this very fine text. Certainly we always ex pect such messages frem our pas tor. At the evening service the Sunday School presented its Chil dren's Day program A fine pro gram was witnessed by all who at tended.
