Boulware ORGANIZING A SPEECH QUESTION: My mam fault in j preparing an address is that, my i speeches ate not well-organized. I seem to ramble, never getting anv place. What would you sug gest?—Mrs. T. H. G ANSWER: The matter of organi zation requires orderly thinking and discipline of mind The main idea of most speeches can be sub divided into several sub-ideas. Re cently, the pastor of thp St. An drew's Presbyterian Church, Nash ville, took for his text a verse from the Songs of Solomon, Chapter 2, verse 15, which said: “Catch us the fixes, the little foxes, that spoil the vineyards, for our vineyards are in bloom ” T!ip major idea was that ihe little things in life count most. It is the little things that bring about our down fall in most cases. The minister’s main points centered around these sub ideas: ill the fox of frustra tion, (21 the fox of fear, and (3) the fox of fatigue. From this basic structure a wonder ful sermon was developed. Members of a congregation arc no longer contented with a long drawn-out. narration of a Bible sto ry.. The minister therefore must get on the bail. The writer of this column write?
