His 40-50 head of pigs were being fed from meal scraps of the mill. In Gates County, a combination swine and beef cattle farm was visited where the land owner and the tenant shared one half in the profit. The group spent the night and had meals at Elizabeth City Tea chers’ College and greetings were given by President Ridley. USD A reports about 28 wnlliOK acres of cropland has been taken out, of production for periods of three to ten years under conserva tion reserve contracts. 7-PATHES COMMUNITY Will 7-Pathes Community be the top community this year in Com munity Development in Franklin County? This is a question that nobody can answer as yet; but we can say that there are sever*! communities working to receive this honor. Area Association by calling their 43 families together, which make up their community, and agreeing on certain goals and objec tives to be reached during the year. Franklin County Has Great Farm And Home Development Program LOUISBURG The Farm and Home Development Program of Franklin County which is design ed to raise the standard of living of rural people is at least making some progress that the county can put its hand on. Through the intensive ap proach used, better methods of farming have been adopt ed, more Livesstock, machinery and equipment, and home con veniences have been added. Farm families of Franklin County have more incentive to farm when they can see improvements and enjoy some of the things they want. During the year 5.958, seventy one families improved their me thods of fanning to the extent that $54,00 were enjoyed te in creased income and inventories a mounting to $617.00 per family. During the year, 1958 one hun dred and five families are expect ed to increase net income and in ventories to a mueh greater fig ure. The philosophy of Franklin County’s approach Is “Doing the best you can with what you have in the light of what you need and want.” If you are making SBOO.OO per acre on tobacco, one bale per acre of cotton, raise the tobacco income to SIOOO.OO or more per Franklin’s 4-H I Girls Attend A Meal “Bakeoff’ i lomsmma ts*» 4 c&a I girl* whs attended the “Cara raeai Bakeoff” Saturday morn ing, September 19. in the agent’s office, really had fun mixing and baking their muffins.
