Miss Pairicia Grimes member of the Corner Stone Baptist Church, Greenville, won the honor of Miss Youth Re treat. Miss Grimes was crowned Miss Youth Retreat at C. M. Eppes High School, Greenville. She is a freshman at Eppe s and is also very active in many school chibs and president of several Miss Grimes' king for the festivities was Master Michael Pearsall of New Bern. Institute On Problems Os Youths Held At Smith U. CHARLOTTE-Tho first of two sessions of an institute on youth problems was held at Johnson C. Smith University Thursday night with expert panelists at the helm of the program. Leading the discussion were Mrs, F. I. Chapman, professional psychologist, Ls J R. Hall, head of the Charlotte Police Depart ment’s Youth Bureau, and J. R. Law, professor of psychology at the University. This opening ses sion dealt with the causes and dif ferent kinds of youth problems, I,t. Hall, who has been with the Youth Department for the past 10 years, stated that there is no specific area in this city without a juvenile problem. He pointed out that one diffi culty about the problem Is the definition of “juvenile.” In North Carolina, he said, after 9, child reaches the age of 16, bfe is treated as an adult in every respect. In response to a question, Pro fessor Law gave the opinion that one seldom finds a person at the age of IS who has achieved emo tional maturity. "Youths in this i age group have not come to grips j with the developmental tasks be j for him," Law stated, j Mrs. Chapman, also giving an opinion as a professional psycho logist, mentioned that one of the causes of youth problems is that children today are not challenged to find out. what they can BE COME. Albert Richard Sampson, a juni or, of Everett, Massachusetts who is president of the campus chapter was elected to the state presiden cy.
