To get the sense we i.julcl p.ace a dash between rh ; words “Spirit”and' “of.” Thus it would read: “For the law of the Spirit -- of life in Christ Jesus, hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” When a sinner places his trust in Christ -as Savior he t- justified before the bar of God, because Christ’s death and ru:'\!eousness are imputed to him. This Is a judicial matter. Elit at the same moment something else happens: the Sphii regenerates and gives new life (Tit. 3:5). Now this is a ’ , an inexorable, un changeable law. The sinner who sincerely places his trust in Christ as Savior is given life by the Holy Spirit. It is always so; it is never other wise. I John 5:12 says: “He that hath the Son hath life...” Joi n 3:36 says mat “He that ■ Tieveth on the Son hath ever St. Aug. Observes 100th With Outstanding Events Rt. C. lasting life” and Col. 3:4 de clares that the believer’s life is “hid with Christ in God.” Thus the apostle could say: “The Law of the Spirit, that of life in Christ, hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” Adam forfeited his life by sin, but the believer’s hew life can never be forfeited, for this life is nothing less than the life of Christ, in whom the sinner has already died and paid for his sins--and in whom he now stands perfect and complete before God. It is a law, a fixed unchange able law, that sin brings forth death (Rom. 5:12; 6:23; et. al). This is called “the law of sin and death,” but the believer has already died for sin in Christ and has been given a new life by the Spirit. Thus “The law of the Spirit,” that of “life in Christ,” has made the simplest believer free from “the law of sin and death.” , Thank God for “the law of the Spirit,” everlasting life through the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. deliver the assembly address at Eleven a. m.; Wednesday, Feb. 1, Band, choir, and vocal ensemble concert, at eight p. m.; Thursday, Feb. 2, St. Aug ustine’s Players, at eight p, m.; Friday, Feb. 3, Basket ball game, St. Augustine’s vs Shaw Univ., Dorton Arena at eight p. m.; Saturday, Feb. 4, Centennial Banquet, speaker The Honorable Hobart Taylor, Western N.C. MEDITATION A SERMONETTE BY COLIN DOUGLAS “But I say unto you, love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you; that ye may be sons of your father.” Matt. 5:44,45. Have you ever stopped to con sider that your reactions to the things that happen to you are much more important than the actual happenings? Your happiness and peace of mind and welfare depend upon your reactions, your attitude, rather than upon the circumstances or conditions of life. And vour reactions are governed, of course, b£ your mind. one oi tne best ways to de velop the right reactions to all circumstances is to remember the teachings of Jesus. He taught us to love our enemies; to do good to those who would dc us harm; to turn the other cheek; to walk the second mile; to haw faith always and only in God, our Father. This same spirit that was in Jesus can govern you, too. It can give you the wisdom and the power to react as He re acted to seemingly unjust and evil s.tu 'ions. Through faith ful prayer, closeness with God, you develop the ability to re turn good for evil —and this Good will abide in you and be expressed by you in your life and in all your dealings with others. Circumstances may not change, but your right atti tude of mind will make you mightier than the circum stances. And as you grow more harmonious and peaceful within the atmosphere of your personal world, you will be able to cope with differences and conflicts helpfully, and to experience the satisfaction of sharing opinions and of accomplishing changes in co-operation with others. In other words, we do not need to wait for other persons or environmental conditions to be come more ideal before we can experience a sense of fulfill ment. We can have this ex perience NOW. “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect w ill of God.” --Rom. 12:2. David D.
