Beatty, second from right, head of the biology department at Livingstone College and a member of the Salisbury City Council, was one of three persons to receive the top brotherhood award given annually by the Salisbury-Rowan chapter of the National Con ference of Christians and Jews. Also receiving the top award last week were Jesse Carson, extreme right, superintendent of Rowan County schools, and Mrs. Rose Post, education and feature writer for The Salis bury Post. Fintnormore, the Word of God towers above the clergy as well as the laity. The Bereans were called "noble” because they pul the words of even the great Apostle Paul to the test of Scripture. That blessed Book Is the Supreme Critic, If we teachers of the Word overlook vital truth, "Thou has blessed the work of his hands, and his substance Is increased.” --Job 1:10. Whatever ouT work may be, It is made easier when we think of ourselves as working with. Goii. God is ever with us, you know, witli His inexhausti ble supply of strength and power and wisdom -- and this supply is always available to us when ever we call upon It. We can never become tired, we can never feel unequal to our tasks, when we remember the source of our strength, the source of our wisdom, the source of our renewal. If, God forbid, we handle the Word deceitfully, they should use THE BOOK to "reprove” us. If we go astray in our con clusions they should use THE BOOK to "correct” us. If they feel we encourage careless liv ing, they should use THE BOOK to "instruct us in righteous ness.” Well do we remember when we were first convicted by the r j ible as the written Word of God --and we have never ceased to thank God for the blessed results. This Book condemns men as sinners before a holy God, but presents salvation free and complete through the vicarious death of Christ for us at Calvary. "Christ died for our sins” (I Cor. 15:3), "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16: 31). BOYCOTT URGED NASHVILLE - A boycott of the Methodist Publishing House has been called for Good Fri day, April 4, by the Black Methodists for Church Renewal (BMCR). The group holds that the publishing firm is not “yet committed to join Project Equality,” that its endorsement "of the principles of Project Equality is made meaningless by its rejections of the basic procedure for reaching PE’s central principle--!a i r em ployment as a condition of do - ing business.” ‘‘VIOLENCE*' CONVOCATION ATLANTA - The Interdenomi national Theological center is sponsoring a national convoca tion on “The Church and Vio lence in the Nation,” at the center on March 11-14. Direc tors of the convocation, which will seek to assist churches and memberships to think through their relationships to violence, and formulate a practical theology for dealing with it, are Dr. Harry V, Richardson, ITC president-e --meritus; and Prof. J. James Groppl of Milwaukee came tc the Mile High City last week with the conviction that “America is going to have to correct its injustices if it is going to sur vive.” Speaking before the Cr usade for Justice, he said; “The church as an institution has been terribly guilty of racism and its teachings in the white parisiies and white parochial schools have to change.” Real Life GR AMBLING, La,—The Grambling College Theatre guild under the direction of Alex Marshall, assistant professor of speech and drama, is hold ing four performances this week of the real life drama, entitl ed “A Land Beyond the River,” in the Little Theatre of the Fine Arts building. The play is based on the experiences of the Rev. Joseph A. DeLaine of Clarendon county, south Caro lina, in obtaining bus tran sportation for Black children in the rural area.
