j FROM RALEIGH’S OFFICIAL POLICE FILES I THE CRIME BE A T I J (CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE) 2 STEALS COOKIES FROM TRUCK Officer Rudolph Felix Perry reported at 1:56 p.rn. Monday, that he and Officer J. C. King observed a colored male, about 17, at I2;0D p.rn., reach into a Tip Top Bakery truck at the corner of S. East and E. Ca barrus Streets and steal one box of cookies, then run away. The cops said they chased the subject several blocks, but “we were unable to catch him.” The truck was driven by James McGhee. The box contained one dozen raisin cookies, worth $1.20, and four dozen oatmeal cookies, valued at $4.80. The suspect was wearing a tan trench coat over a gold sweater, according to the report. * * * BOY ASSAULTED BY TWO Excell Wilson. 211 Seawell Avenue, reported to officer J. W. Wright at 9:16 p.m. Mon day, that his son, Tony Archie Jones, 12, was standing outside the Boys’ Club corner of New Bern and Tarboro Road, when Thomas Eari Johnson, 15,111 Hicks Street, and Athur Lee Whitley, 14, 708 E. Jones Street, assaulted him by striking him and broke his glasses, valued at SSO. Both youths were charged with assault. + * * STRUCK FROM BEHIND Lonnie Hew Smith, 24, 1108 Mark Street, informed Officer W. B. G. Hamilton and F. A. Taylor at 6;55 p.rn. on Sunday of last week, that the last time she could account for her license plate being on her 1963 Ford Station wagon was at 7 p.m. the day before, when it was parked at the above ad dress. The car was driven to the complainant’s place of em ployment on this date and was parked on Exeter Circle. She did not notice if the missing plate was on the car when she left for work. The stolen plate’s number is Y'B-8471. It is valued at sll. * * * % STUDENT REPORTS THEFT Jackie Kendrick, 205 Estey Hall, Shaw University, reported to Officers J. E. Pierce and O. C. Pratt at 3:51 p.m, Fri day, that several items of his clothing were removed from a trunk, located on the same floor where he lives. It was pried open with an unknown tool. Missing weie two sweaters, hand-knitted, blue and green, '"lined at $75; one brown turtle neck sweater, $25; and one black turtle neck sweater, also said by the complainant to be worth $25. The trunk was taken to the City-County identification Bureau to be checked for fing erprints. Damage to the trunk was set at $3. The incident oc curred after 1:30 p.m, Friday. * * * MORE LARCENY AT SHAW Horace Small, A-15 Washing ton Terrace, Shaw counselor, reported to Officers J. C. King and R. F. Perry at 4:16 p.m. Saturday of last week, that at approximately 2 p.m, on March 1, someone entered 402 Estey Hall and stole a small tape recorder, the property of Henry Bush, and valued at S4O. Also taken at the same time was a black London Fog overcoat, valued at SSO. * * * NAB CIGARETTE THIEF Officer John R. Stoutt ar rested Otha N. Herndon, 62, of Garner, Route 2, at 5:18 p.m. Saturday and charged him with larceny after a carton of Pall Mall cigarettes was reportedly taken from the A&P Food Store, 201 E. Hargett Street, by Mr., Herndon. The cigarettes were valued at $2,10. Herndon’s bond was set at SSO. * * * INCOME TAX CHECK STOLEN Hamp Henry Burden, 567 New Bern Avenue, reported to the police department at l p.m. Friday, that someone had stolen his $75 income tax refund check. Drawers had been opened and the con tents thrown onto the floor. Two bedrooms and the den were “messed up.” A large jewelry box was taken out of the front bedroom and a small box had been emptied. A pillow case the bed was used to haul the jewelry. The large jewelry box con tained the following items; One ladies Bulova yellow gold watch, $75; two French bracelet's, yel low gold, $25; one small ladies yellow gold watch S2O; and Other assorted jewelry, SIOO. Also stolen were twelve long-sleeve men’s white dress shirts, S7O; WORK - Miss Joyce Davis, a 9th grade English teacher at Carnage Junior High School, received a beautifully engraved plaque for training the three boys in an oratorical contest, in which each boy received an award for the excellent rendi tion of their oration. She Is the first Ne gro to be employed in this po sition in a Warren County Bank. Miss Sondra Elaine Williams began her new duties with the Norlina bank recently. The 26-year-old woman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Char les D. Williams, Jr. of War renton. She is a graduate of McKin ley High School In Washington, D, C, and attended Elizabetl City State College, St. Augus tine’s College in Raleigh and one gold bracelet, clip-on type, $25. Prior to accepting a position with the Norlina Bank, Miss Williams was employed by the Navy Department in Washing ton for two years as a clerk in the classified division. She was also formerly employed by the Julius Garflnckel and Co. Department Store In Washington as a sales clerk and with the Veterans Administration Hos pital in Washington as a nursing assistant. Miss Williams’ hobbies are playing the piano and organ and directing choirs for churchs in her spare time.
