Drive Safely Danforth Fellowship Scarborough Gets A Dannv l. Scarborough, son of Mrs. Bertha Lewis, Wake Forest, has won a Danforth Graduate F ellowship for ad vanced study for the Ph.D. de gree, according to a recent an nouncement from the Danforth Foundation of St. Louis, Mis souri. The Fellowship provides tuition and living expenses for four years of study in prepara tion for a career of college i teaching. Scarborough was nominated for this fellowship by Saint Augustine’s College, where ire is a senior. More than 1,900 college seniors from colleges and uni versities throughout the United States competed for the L 3 Fellowships awarded this year. The Danforth Fellowship are designed to encourage outstand ing College Graduates who show promise for distinguished careers in college teaching in order to help meet the critical need for such people. Selection of Danforth Fallows is made annually by a national panel of educators, primarily on the basis of the evident in tellectual power of the candi date, and his commitment to humane values and their place in higher education. Over 1,500 Danforth Fellow ship have been awarded since the program was established In 19“2, and more than7ooofthese men and women have finished Ph.D. degrees and are now teaching in college and univer sities. Hatcher did his bit for “law and order” bv aiding in the arrest of a man wanted in con nection with two hit-and-run property damage accidents. _ The mayor was in his 1968 Cadillac, chauffeured by Frank lin McKinney, a policeman, when they spotted a car weav ing in and out of traffic. They chased the care foi four blocks and curbed it. Police identified the driver of the car as Austin B. A good example of this is found in the case where sev eral children contribute, to gether, the total support of their parent. Although not one of them contributes the par ent's chief support, those who contribute more than 10? of tlie support may decide, among themselves, who shall claim the parent as a dependent.
