Jail on a charge of as sault with a deadly weapon The complainant exhibited a one-inch cut above the right ear and a one-inch cut on the right shoulder. The incident occurred at the home of Mrs. Jones. * * * MAN. EX -wife; charged Plummer Lee Hinton, 27, 219 S. Hast Street, reported to Of ficer L. Cla;borne at 3:10 p. m. Sunday, that during a "fuss" with his ex-wife, Mrs. Alice Bass Hinton, 25, he was assaul ted with a knife by her. Both signed warrants, c! urg ing each other with assault with a deadly weapon and both were arrested and placed under bonds of $l5O eaei . The argu ment and cutting took place in the 200 block of S. East St. Hinton had a bruised left hand. * * * SHOOTS AT MAN Roy Thompson, white resi dent of Durham, told Officer Otis L. Hinton at 7 : 5C p.m. Friday, that he chased a color ed male, whom he caught com ing out of h.is car in a parking lost at 220 S. Salisbury St. He said the man stopped and told him, “I’ll shoot you," and then fired one shot and continued running. L. Stoudenmire at 9:02 a.rn. Thursday, that when he came in, he discovered the cigarette machines had been tampered with. He said some one had tin ned the machines up side down, letting the money fall to the top of the machines, so that when they were turned back up, some of the coLns came out of the cigarette chute. Mr. Taylor said this has hap pened several times in past months. An unknown amount of money wastake' by the "sneak” thieves. * * * RADIO "SWIPED" FROM TRUCK Johnie Ruth Thomas, Route G, Rsleigh, told Officer Freddie L. Benson at 8:02 p m. Thurs day, that someone stole a Ne pon portable radio, green and white in color, from the dash of a 1961 Ford pickup truck, wlilie it was parked in the 300 block of S. East Street. Russell, 1529 Nicholas St., Hen derson, this week became The CAROLINIAN'S official repre sentative in four eastern North Carolina counties, Franklin, Granville, Vance and Warren. He lias written Henderson news for more than a yeas. In his new position, he will handle advertising, news and circula tion for "North Carolina’s Leading Weekly.” A native of Vance County, Rev. Russell is a retired Methodist minister, having pastored the AME Zion Church, bennettsviile, S. C.; St. Joseph’s AME Zion, Ox ford; Oak Grove AME Zion Church, Cumberland County; and Wesley Chapel AME Zion, Lillington. He also retired this vear as president of the Vance County chapter of the NAACP. He is married to Mrs. Maria V. Russell. Rev.
