Club News SOUTH PARK IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION The South Park improvement Association held its regular meeting Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Ethel Greene, 1111 S. Person St. Rev. Wilson, chairman, presided over the business session. Mrs. Helen Lucas, Waldrop Action Center, also rnet with us. The Beautification Commit tee report was submitted by Mrs. Effie Young, hand chair man of the association. She shared information from the Raleigh Hands Committee, summarized progress to date, and encouraged continued home and yard Improvement. , Reports were made on the "Stay At Home Tea.” The pro tect was considered a success. A short workshop on lamp making was conducted by Mr. L. A. Powell. Members agreed to beautify their homes with at tractive lamps the inexpensive way. The door prize, an azalea, was won by Mrs, Catherine Phillips. The azalea was pre sented to the association by Mrs. Vallie Henderson, Raleigh iand chairman. The hostess used a green color scheme pre-St, Patrick in decoration and refreshments were enjoyed by all. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. A, WILDER Mrs. Thelma Cum bo Lennon delivered a challenging Wo man’s Day message on Sunday, March 16, at St. Matthew Bap tist Church, Louisburg Road, at the eleven o'clock hour. Using as a theme, “A Wise Mother’s Counsel To Her Son,*’ she based her address on ex pressions from Proverbs 31, the tenth through the 31st verses. “Nothing can add to this beauty of the Bible por- MRS. Jones requested $980,000 to build a classroom building, but. it was not recommended by the Advisory Budget Commission. However, the commission did recommend one million for a gym at Pembroke State College. "We’re due this classroom and I think we ought to have it,' 5 Jones told the sub-committee. “There's such, a thing as right and wrong.” Jones asked for capital Im provements totaling about $1.3 million during the next bien nium. He did not request any ad ditional "B” budget money, saying he expected to get. an equitable share of the $8 mil lion equalization fund recom mended for distribution through the Board of Higher The "B” budget covers new anti expanded programs. "Don’t be misled,” Jones said.
