Clay Is Stripped Os Islamk Name MvhmmadAH CHICAGO - The former heavyweight boxing champion of the world, Cassius Marcellue (Muhammad All) C3a>, Jr., who lost his crown because of his Black Muslim religion and his refusal to be inducted into the U. S. Army, lias now been strip ped of his religious status and Islamic name of Muhammad A li. Clay, who had l>een convicted and sentenced to five years for refusal to be inducted into the Armed Forces, said after the Supreme Court ruling that he would fight again if the convic tion were overruled. Clay’s statement of a possible return to the ring incensed Eli ah Muhammad to a point where the Black Muslim leader an nounced the former champion was being defrocked as a Mus lim minister. It was as a Muslim minister that Clay claimed exemption from the draft as a conscien tious objector.
