Dußois PTA Will Honor Its Retiring School Personnel WAKE FOREST -Two faculty and one staff member, whose services cover more than fifty years at Dußois School, wiii lie honored at the May 6th meeting of the Dußois Parent -Teachers Association. The special tribute to Mrs. Doris A. Best, Miss Ailev M. Young, and Mrs. Ellen L. Alston will fellow the 8:00 p.m. business session, to be held in the school gym tor ium. The three honorees have rendered unselfish service to Ml® ALLEY M. YOUNG MRS. D, A. BEST the school, community and county. Mrs. Best is the widow of the late Lincoln R. Best, who was the principal of Dußois School from 1936 until his death 1954. She is the mother of two sons; Dr. Lincoln R. Best of Los Angeles, California, and Dr. Eric W. Best of Albuquer que, New Mexico, She has three grandchildren. Mrs. Best holds a B. S. de gree In Home Economics Edu cation from North Carolina Col lege at Durham; and a M. A. degree i n Home Economics Education from Columbia’s Teachers College in New York City. Mrs. Best will end 33 years of teaching at Dußois School at the end of this school year. She gave a detailed report on the National Convention, held recently in Los Angeles, Calif, and report ed that Soror Alzonia Roberts was elected to a national of fice. Members present were gratified over the announce ment. After the bussines, the meeting was turned over to the hostess, who served a delicious “soul food" dinner. She received her educational and religious training at the Pres byter ian School, a private school in Wake Forest; Barber Scotia College, Concord; and Shaw University, Raleigh. She has also done further study at North Carolina State Universi ty, Raleigh, and North Carolina College at Durham. Her church membership is at the Spring Street United Presbyterian Church, Wake Forest. The Divine Travelers ob served a successful anniver sary. The Pilgrim Jubilee Singers of Chicago will be in this a rea. On Wednesday night, May 7, they will apear at the North Harnett School In Angier at 8 o’clock. On the program will be the Pilgrim Jubilees of Chicago, Illinois, the Clouds of Harmony of Brooklyn, N. the Jackson Southernaires of Florida, and James Sanders and the Golden Beils of Raleigh. Miss Young will end 15 years of service to Dußois School where, she was active member cf the PTA, taught one of the classes in the first Head Start program at Dußois, and serv ed on the public relations com mittee for several years. Mrs. Alston joined the Du- Bois Cafeteria staff in 1963. She, also, a native of Wake Forest. She was educated In Wake Forest and was married to the late Robert B. Alston. Os this union there were five children. Mrs. Alston Is a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church. She is a member of Club No. 1 and the Missionary Circle at Olive Branch. She is also a member of the Elizabeth Chapter No, 197 of the Order of Eastern Star. For years, Mrs. Alston has been an active member of the Dußois PTA. Rev. Leon Netterville, Jr., has voice hopes that he “will not be the last Negro presi dent” of Southern and that the university will never abdicate “its role of service to the state or any other institution.” In reference to recent talk about the U.
